Hi, I faced a major problem because I had no option. Upon leaving my ex-company, they hadn't cleared my last 3 months' salary and only handed me a release letter, not a service/experience letter. Now, my current employer is pressuring me for a service letter, and I had no choice but to add my designation and joining date in that release letter, which is accurate.
My ex-employer claimed that the letter was tampered with during the Background Verification (BGV) process. I promptly resigned from my position, but the HR department has not reached out to me yet. I have only received an email from the BGV team requesting an explanation on this matter. Apart from that, I have submitted all necessary documents, which are accurate, and even my UAN history reflects my work history.
What should I do now?

You have landed yourself in an indefensible position. A tampered document, irrespective of its accuracy, is still a fictitious and despicable one. The prospective employer will hesitate to lend any credence to it. Still, what you can do is admit the mistake, submit all proof of the facts, and hope and pray for the best.

You have resigned, so that should end the matter if the resignation is accepted. It is for the management to decide whether to allow you to leave peacefully or take follow-up action, if they are going to view it seriously. At any rate, don't repeat the mistake.
