Didn't you get time to think about this before you finished your MBA ?
1) The entry level salary opportunity would be higher in Finance. For example Investment Banks pay the highest packages across all domains.
2) Scope wise, you really cannot compare, they are an equally important part of any company.
3) You should be choosing based on your interest and aptitude.

As an HR your entry level salary could be comparatively lower.
But as you said that your primary interest is in HR I suggest you go with HR. Because as you grow in the HR department your salary will also go up. Roles like OD specialists get paid handsome packages.

being a person having specialization in HR as well as Finance u were supposed to have a know how of both these areas.. In my opinion people having HR as their specialization can be good in dealing with humans salarywise they dont have much scope in the begining but in the longer run they tend to have the power to negotiaite depending on their expertise.
Finance people have the advantage of having the knowledge of financial elements plus with their people skills they can b as good as HRs in a company.(Many senior officers having technical education have been seen doing this)
they sure have the advantage of better salaries right from the beginning of their careers.
coming to ur question of who can become a CEO-- Anyone who has learnt how to utilize his/her experience in the organization effectively in the long run can win the race.

Im a student of MBA, and seems Im also following the sam path as the guy who started this topic.
Currently Im doing my MBA in Finance, and after finishing it, I'll do another MBA in HR.
The reason of entering into HR is not that Im weak in finance (as the most of the ppl do). My finance is good, but I think that the level of interest I've got in HR, no one else can have!
I beleive both the subjects r very essential in running any organization. To me, HR is more a LINE FUNCTION,than a SUPPORT FUNCTION.
Finance is about running ur company, and HR is about getting the most out of ur partners, peers and subordinates.
I think one should enter into Finance department, and have a good involvement in HR dept too!

Hi dear
It was shocking when i read this from you.
Remember one thing Big organizations will never select there CEO based on the candidates qualification are the experience.
The basic thing they see before the selection of an CEO is the attitude and Person as a human being and this is seen specially in the organizations like TATA
So what i would tell you is try and identify your strengths and go in to related fled were you can excel in that particular role. which leads to your desired CEO position.
As some one said Finance people become CEOs i would add that most of the CEOs failed in carrier are from MBA finance.
Hope this could be of some use to you.

Hi,
Hi,
HR or Finance, both are having thair own values and importance.
In my view, HR is d best choice.
But, here let me clear that, the choice is entirely depends on you. You have to evaluate your self and chose a field on your interest where u feels that you are the best, u will contribute grow well and can generate good yield.
