Well, I disagree with all the above.... it's possible and it's there in several organizations also. There are a no. of examples, where individuals having a HR qualification have attained the top most position of the Organization.
Competency matters dear....:) if you have the potential of attaining the top most position you can.... :-P
Cheers !!!

Dear Surbhi,
Your Statement Is Desireable Imagination That Competant HR Professional Deserve Such Helm Of Affair Positions.
Let Be Tell You Frankly, Ony Public Sector Companies Due To Its Seniority In Promotion People From HR Background Got Chairman& Managing Director Position. Other Than This Only Family Owned Business Due To Shareholding In Company Stocks He May Find Placed In Such Helm Of Affairs AND NOT DUE TO HR BACKGROUND.
For Your Kind Information Such People Who Had Been Occupied Such Positions As Mention Above Are Less Than 0.1 % In Entire India.
You Are Requested To Quote Such People If You Have Any Knowledge Of Such Hr Professional Being Appointed In Ceo/cfo Positons In Public Limited Listed On Stock Exchanges Exist To Support Your Statement.

yes the HR people could become CEO/CFO, if u have adequate knowledge in the proper area. Now this trend has already been started in India also.one year back there was a news in the TOI Ascent how the HR people have started to appoint as CEO.In USA 3/4 ceo from HR baground are there. No body knows about the future, even after 5 to 6 years we may see in india more number of CEO from HR bacground.CEO is not a small position any one could demand for the same.one need to have exp in Mktg,Sales,Finance and HR.

My response to this would be... "Certainly...and why not"

Let us look at the challenges of A Business Leader (or a CEO)
  • Achieving and sustaining profitability
  • Developing leaders and delegating responsibility
  • Engaging employees in the company's vision
  • Managing risk and volatility
  • Managing expectations
  • Containing costs
  • Raising capital
  • High-quality employees
  • Right timing in the Marketplace
  • Sound business strategy
  • Strong leadership
  • Exceptional or unique products
  • Proprietary technology
  • Internationalization of markets and resources
  • and many more...
Most of these challenges pertain to Human Capital.

As a CEO, I need Enguaged employees, Aligned teams, Transparent organisation thereby making the organisation to have a Winning Culture and improved talent retention. This would result in Better returns to the Shareholders.

Traditionally, this post was given to the best Sales person in the organisation as profit was the only reference for CEO performance. I need a sustained competetive advantage in the market space to remain in profits. This competitive advantage lies in the kind of Talent pool I have and how enguaged they are to organisation objectives.

Thus, CEO has to be the best HR guy around.

So, HR guy can become a CEO.

HR pople can also become CEO. CEO position is not limited to finance or marketing persons only. but HR people can also become CEO. a sa metter of fact for becoming a CEO knowledge of only one field is insufficient, it solely depends on your capabilities.

Hi,
To become a CFO you need to have accounts and finance background, preferably a chartered accountant.
However, to become a CEO you need to be a good team leader, good administrator, preferably with an MBA and marketing expertise.
