Dear Seniors,

I have been in gr8 confusion throughout this weekend. I have been working in a SW Co. from the past 1.2 years & previously had thought to resign due to the Co.'s enviornment & administration realted issues. Though the Co. has never had any complains with me & gave me a compatible hike in my 6 monthly & yearly appraisal but the other factors in the Organisation like mismanagement & others which cannot be put in words time & again make me rethink to quit.

Hence finally I could not take it any more & gave into my temptation & resigned on Friday; This is not yet accepted & I need to give my final decision by Tuesday.

The Organisational factors I know are beyond improvement as its a start up firm & but being a BBA I have been handling their overall HR activities & earning a competetive Salary when compared to an MBA & otherwise keeping in view the Salary status of HR people in the initial stages of career. I havent yet explored any other option & planning to serve a notice of 30 days as I need the money to survive.

Please let me know is this a vise decision????

Also after 1yr in HR with a BBA qualification will I get good opportunities? Though I am confident of this but my friends are not; for eg when I decided to find an HR job after my BBA I had very few supporters but then I got what I wanted & I am still sure that I can do it... & Now with the Forum Memebers to support I am doubly sure

In the end Please ADVICE me I am in need of help ....

Thanks & Regards

Hi Geeti,

At the starting of career there will be lot of confusion about the roles and responsibilities you have to perform. This one year will be spent on studying the policies and systems and developing relationships with peers, subordinates and superiors. Once you got a strong hold of the department, you have to start consolidating your position from second year onwards by your hard work and your positive attitude. You have to go all out to change the negative aspects around you or if this is not possible you should try atleast to highlight those negative aspects and bring them to the notice of your superiors. You have to convince them with illustrations on how these negative aspects are poised to ruin the department or the organization. You still feel that things are not changing as per your aspirations you may then have to think about the alternatives.

It's very easy to quit, but where is the guarantee that you will not face similar situation in other organization also? Be wise and take an appropriate decision which helps your career in the long run.

Good Luck!

You are in Shakespearean " TO BE OR NOT TO BE" situation. Pradeep has suggested rightly. You have mentioned that yr present salary is comparitive with profiles of higher credentials. Also you mentioned that you have been getting 6 monthly remunerative updation and the company has no complaints against you. Ofcourse the members of this forum is not sure on what sort of problems you encounter or what exactly is compelling you to take this decision. Pls introspect whether you are expecting an enviro which you are finding in MNCs and other organisational titans. If so, it may not happen. Because as you said yr company is relatively new. The management has to experience / realise certain aspects of what you feel. Pls remember, there is no ideal situation. It is a myth. Yes... in attempting to creat an ideal enviro, one can keep on improving the present enviro. It needs lot of time, patience and perseverence as well as acceptance by management.

Do not quit abruptly. Try what Pradeep has rightly suggested. The 'quiting' option can be taken any time. A bird in hand is better than two in the bush. A known devil is better than unknown angel. So.... GIVE IT ANOTHER TRY in your present organisation.

Dear Geeti,

All I wish to say is that there is no use of asking for advice and suggestions for an act which has already been committed. You have already resigned so it is not worth discussing whether the step was right or wrong, but I can tell you about the consequences which might take place as per Industry Norms.

1) A person who resigns his/her image and career growth with the Organisation will have very big damaging effect which may takes years to repair if at all possible. The employee is never trusted and is always kept out of any career growth path and the Organisation almost in all cases look at the person as opportunist, not confidantabout himself(resigned and stayed back), having less market value(you are staying because others are not ready to pay you more than what you are getting) and exploit the employee to the fullest. So, it is better for you to resign.

Now, the above situation is not applicable in the following case:

1) The employee is an asset and have tremendous market value, where the loss to the Company will be immense if the person leaves and the Company feels that proper justice has not been done to his potential by the Company due to faults of the Company alone, like not giving him promotion which may be due or not give proper incentives or increments or pay hike OR the Company doesnot have the capacity to retain such an employee in trems of Salary and/or Opportunity.

2) The employee is good, loyal having proven track record but is resigning due to injustice or personal vendatta carried out by others with a view to cause him harm and his grievances were not redressed when he approach the Company. One of the Project Managers of a Construction Company I knew was never getting any support from the Corporate Office as his boss did not like him because of his method of working. He had a proven track record. He wrote a resignation letter directly to the Director-Projects explaining in details why he was resigning. The Director after receiving the letter told him to continue and personally saw to it that his problem was solved.

So, if you fall in the above two categories you can carry on otherwise it is advisable to leave the organisation.

Hi!
Although my experience in this field is only 2 years , I have known many who faced the similar situation as ur's. So, I would like u to give a thought. As I can understand, u r working for a start up firm. U r at the initial stage of ur career. Its always better to grow along with a growing firm rather than trying to associate urself with a big giant and not contributing much to them. Sticking on to a growing firm will help u try and implement policies urself.... such opportunity is lost in an MNC. Give it a thought! Look for ur value addition to the employer. Money comes to u when needed. Help ur employer grow.
Ur feedback is welcome. Hope this will be of some use to u.

Hi All,
Thanks for the response..
Dear Swastik,
I fall into the 2nd category of the Second point as described by you...
Well I had a word with my HR Manager today again & I listed to him the areas where I face problem, he understood my point & convinced me to continue with the Company further adding that we would talk to our CEO tomorrow on this.
Hence as of now I am very much employed with the same Firm & feeling at peace after discussing my problems & will let you know the outcome of my discussion with my CEO.
Thanks & Regards

Hi Preeti,
Actually you can give it another thought. You have to remember one thing that is "When going gets tough the tough gets going". It is easy to quit this job but you have to understand that it is difficult to find one as well. It is a competitive market and without an HR degree any recruitment personnel will think twice befor giving a job.
So be patience and try to settle down slowly with the organisation culture.
Even if you go to another company what is the gaurantee you will not face the same problem.. As an HR you should face the problems to fine tune youself. Also thnik of one question, if you find it difficult yourself to adjust and adapt to an organisation how will you train your employees on this?
relax and think that you can do it, definetly you can do it.

Hi Geeti
You are making abig mistake by resigning see if you want to resgin then look for a good job and then resign - you can find good job when you are not looking for a job - this a proven fact -- when ever you look for a job u may not get but even though u get u may not be i apostion to decline if offer is not reasonbable so look for a job in u r job itself because u will be in a advategous position as well as you escape from lot of questions which areise if some gap occur in your CV.

Most people give up just when they're about to acheive success. They quit on the one yard line. They give up at the last minute of the game one foot from a winning touchdown.
