I worked as logistics HOD for 6 months in my company. I was promoted from import executive position to this but i had no experience. Some of team members were against so they started being nice but behind my back they were portraying wrong image to other managers and my boss.
HR wanted to use his own transporter which I refused due to price difference and now HR has announced on official group that I'm no longer interfering and the asst manager hired will replace me to which my boss said he didn't permit this. This promotion was without increment and now was the time for me to get rewarded and this politics has spoiled it.
What do i do? I gave best efforts that probably this new person cannot do.

Dear Monika,

From the post you have uploaded, it can be deduced that:

a) You were awarded a promotion but your colleagues were not taken into confidence. Your management should have thought of the backlash from your peers but they did not do it. A jump from the Executive level to the managerial leapfrogs the position of Asst Manager.

b) Notwithstanding the leapfrogging, the technical competence of a manager is sine quo non. It appears you have a shortcoming on this count.

c) You took a principled stand of not approving the own vehicle for the HR Manager. However, while doing so you forgot the golden rule of not keeping a gun on your shoulder. I wish you had fired a shot but by keeping a gun on the shoulder of your senior.

d) The HR Manager took a decision in his summary power to divest you of your power and substitute you with your junior. This is the height of everything. Without taking top leadership into confidence, how can he do that?

Final Comments: - Your company is not organised. The lines of authority are not well demarcated and the top boss appears to be a weak one. Otherwise, most of the bosses rule with an iron hand and they have a firm grip over administration. However, in this case, the grip appears to be a loose one. So there is no solution. Your woes will continue in this company. As far as possible, do your duties sincerely but start looking for a change. The sooner you get a better opportunity, avail it of.

Thanks,

First of all, on what grounds the promotion was given to you without increment by the Boss/Management. Whether it was due to lack of proper hands or you were too deserving to don a HOD position straight from an Import Executive. Reg the clash with HR person using his own or known transporter (for his material gain, obviously) please document the same with comparitive quotes, quality of fleet, etc to counter him at any point of time, when required.
As commented by senior pro, Mr Dinesh Divekar, your organization looks highly unprofessional.I dont see any logic in HR person taking decision in inter departmental matters without keeping the Boss in reckoning. Try to look for better opportunities as such bandicoots always dig deeper into the organization and never allow other entrants in key positions, which hampers their well being. Its common in most of the ill-organized set ups, though they do good business with a reasonable turnover.

Hi,

Work place politics is very common one across all offices.

When you got promoted as Logistics HOD whether any KRA is defined for you ? First of be clear with your roles and responsibilities and get it document duly authorized by the Location Head. As per your office hierarchy I believe you are not reporting to your HR and hence the move of HR is invalid. Take up the matter further with the Location Head / Immediate Superior and I think the operation process of your office is to be defined properly with roles and responsibilities of each Department and individuals.

I would echo with Dinesh Sir here!

I could see the faults in top management, Even the HR person seems unprofessional in approach. The communication channel looks weak in your current organization, as per your narration. HR always syncs up with the top management for hiring/ replacement requirements, I would suggest you, look for other opportunities and switch ASAP and get out of this Sick culture.
