Nowhere in any Act it is stated that after marriage a woman should have surname of her husband. Then why do you do all these bluders? When we are heading towards an era where the women should have status equal to men, why should you change the name after marriage? I thought this is a common understanding only with illiterate women and I have seen casual workers giving the name in the employment slips with husbands name as surname. When I ask them whether they have changed the name after publishing the same in the gazette, they say NO.

My sincere advice is that you cannot change your name without publishing the same in the gazette. You can give any name in the adhar and also in the bank account. But the EPF records is a life long record and in that basically the name should be as per your birth certificate or school leaving certificate. Tomorrow when you want to withdraw the PF, you cannot do it if your names mismatch.

I believe that the name as per EPFO is the name as per your birth certificate and school certificate. Let it be like that. You should now change the name in the adhar by visiting the adhar facilitation centre and by producing the school leaving certificate. Similarly you should also change the name in the bank records. You can also change your name in the EPF by submitting a joint declaration duly signed by you and the employer. But without changing the name in the school leaving certificate and birth certificates which are the basic documents in support of your age, changing the EPF records is useless and you should not do that. This is because it will create a lot of issues in future. At the same time, you can change the name in the adhar very easily.

Hi,

As rightly pointed out by Mr.Madhu change of name through gazette notification is advisable so that there will not be any legal issues in future.

Not sure based on what proof you had made the changes in Aadhar/PAN/Bank ,

If changes is already effected in Aadhar, you can change the name in PF UAN Portal using KYC tab " name as per Aadhar" option.

After completing the above process after approval from employer/pf office, you may remove the bank details and add again.

Changing the name in EPFO based on the available adhar is easy because for that a declaration jointly signed by the employee and the employer is sufficient but if you have not changed the name through an official notification in the gazette, the EPFO claims including the pension in future shall get rejected. At the same time changing the adhar details is easy but I don't know if it is permitted since you have already availed the facility of changing the name. Similarly, I can't comment how can you change the name in the PAN because in all government records, now a days, father's name is mandatory and even in the case of married women, the name of the father is mandatory.

Could you please confirm is there any prblm when I joined new company, as my name is differ in Adhara and epfo site. Previously seeded my Adhara with uan no. Also submit documentation to my current employer regarding joint declaration process, however it is taking much time than usual.
