Yes, leaves are calculated on the base of calendar year (Jan-Dec). I agree with Jeevarathnam.

Dear Mr.Sandeep,
I too agree with Mr.Jeevarathnam and Mr.Sandeep. All types of leave either may be PL/EL, Casual Leave and Sick leave are calculated on Calendar year basis. The casual leaves are not carried forward but PL/EL are allowed to accumulate as per permissible limits. If you give the breakup of your 18 days leave, we can further guide you about leave rules.

There are more than one practice is followed by diff. kinds of establishment. For eg. state & central govt. follow Casual Leave on calendar year basis and EL/PL/ML on completed year of service basis. Whereas some pvt. firms follow little differently partly calendar year and partly Fin.year. Some fully Fin.year basis. First of all you must consider what type of estt. you are in. Factory/industry or offices (Shops & commercial Estt.) as the leave rules provided in the respective Acts have to be followed.
