Hi, I am working for a reputed NBFC, in the back-office department, I am forced to work after official working hours, frequently forced by my boss to work late night, there is no response although I have informed to the HR dept. I am in thought to leave the job as it is becoming a regular practice.
Pls suggest is there any way to resolve it.

Dear Srikanth,

In many companies, working long is considered as sign of loyalty towards the company or the boss. Do you have this kind of culture in your company? Overall how many persons work long in your company? Problem of long working hours, is it only in your department or across all the departments? What is the percentage of extra hours per week?

Why you are required to work extra? Have you done your workload analysis? What kind of primary and secondary skills are required? What is your error rate in the job? What kind of work takes maximum amount of time in your day?

How do you stay organised? Do you use all the features of your mobile phone, Calendar of MS Outlook, Contact list etc? How much time you spend in searching something per day? Do you maintain sufficient cross-references in your work?

Have you spoken with your boss? What does he say? How did you inform HR? Was it verbally or through e-mail?

There are so many questions associated with your post. Please provide us complete information. Any solution can be provided thereafter.

Thanks,

Some Bosses normally whose family is disturbed.. Do like this. Good HR persons make Late sitting policy. They monitor Department wise late sitting trend & asks the Team head about its cause & action / support needed.
You cannot do much about this. If your end Time is 5:00 PM.. He will ask data or report at 4:40 PM. What you can do ?
Just keep record of reasons & time you have been stopped after working hours. After data is consolidated for 2 ~ 3 months.. Discuss with HR.
What Dinesh ji has suggested is normal English as per mangement standards.

If you would like to teach a lesson to them, before you resign, kindly draft an email stating that you are tortured to work later hours & why HR fails to address the complaint on the same while escalated earlier. This shall be a great evidence to tear them

Hi Srikanth,
You need to do an analysis as why you are asked to stay back and work late that to after your official work hours.
1. If the work load is heavy - plan it accordingly and finish your work so that your boss has no reasons to ask you to stay late
2. If you have personal issues with your boss - either you have to talk to him in a nice way and request him explaining that you are not able to stay after office hours due to your personal commitments.
Complaining will not solve your problems.
If you can not do any of the above - my advise would be to find another job and get away from there.
Always remember we will stay at the same place if we do nothing.
Plan and act....
