I would like to request for update on my query. We are having offset Book Printing unit in New Delhi and would like to run in two shifts 8 AM - 4PM and 10PM - 6AM. So do we need to take a permission from any of govt. authorities or any formalities to be cleared before implementing such rule.

Hi, I think so it is not required. indeed i can say its not required expect Overtime case. In salary statement you can prepare the statement for only number of working days for night shift also.

Dear Mr. Krishan,
Any manufacturing company has to intimate the government authorities for :
1. Change in time of any shifts
2. Addition / Deletion of any shifts
3. Change in weekly holidays
4. Changes in extra working day
5. list of paid holiday issued for the current year
In your case, No permission has to be taken but I suggest that you should take out a circular with a Cc to the Labour Commissioner stating the change or addition of second shift in your company. This circular can be send to the labour commissioner just to intimate them.
This is will prevent you from getting any negative remarks during the visit of Factory Inspector.

Hello Krishan Makhijani,
Ankit Chaturvedi has given the apt suggestions.
However, given the current social security scenario, pl also check-out the permissions aspect IF you have any female staff to work during the Night Shifts.
Rgds,
TS
