From India, Hyderabad
Mr. Rajiv
I suggest the following :
"All the associates are hereby informed that, henceforth, office boys will look after cleaning the Plates of General Mangers and Directors only.
All are requested to please make note of the same and request not to utilize the services of office boys for this work. Your cooperation in this regard is highly appreciated"

Dear Rajiv
Actually you must advise top management to hire a common.office boy/peon for.suchworks ,as in.office where G.M is itting.then.thr must be such basic manpower to maintain.the.office cleanness,
if.you wnt.to.give a intimation for same then you can write as
It.is to inform all office staff that Office Boy name.......... is not supposed to clean plates, glasses, cups and no one is expected to pressurise him.for doing so,
By instructions of top management.
Co-ordination expected by all esteemed staff.
By order
Top Management.

Dear Rajiv,
These are some of the tricky situations one faces in the office. Once a precedent is set, it becomes difficult to get rid of. Old timers would not have problems as they are used to such privileges by senior/top management. But the gennext seem to be difficult to digest this so called discrimination.
I suggest the following:-
1. End this practice of office boys cleaning any body\'s plates/lifting cups etc.
2. Top management, if atall wish to avail of this, must do so within the confines of their office rooms/chambers.
3. Eating in the same dining hall and having such a privilege is not good for office hygiene.
4. In all good organizations, the top management always walk the talk, lead by example.e.g. in a German MNC, where I worked for four years, the top management would wash their own plates, fill their own water bottles, collect their print outs from the common room themselves, pool cars etc. without ever feeling slighted.Hence, we all did our chores without any r

Dear Rajiv,
As Binod has said, the current generation would find it difficult to swallow this discrimination. However, if this is absolutely necessary, I suggest that a separate area be cordoned off for Directors and General Managers, and enclosed. Then this rule may be followed. Still I would not be in favour of this being implemented, and the top management MUST walk the talk.

Dear S Kundra,
Thanks for your noble thoughts! You have written exactly what was in my mind. I know MD of very prominent auto company, who just not only stands in queue for lunch but after taking meals, cleans his own plate also. After all this is what is what team spirit is and top management must show it in action.

Dear Rajiv...

What nonsense.... why the office boys have to clean the food plates of GM and Directors..... They are also employees like any other employees....... If they are Directors and General Manager it is only for the official purpose... and strictly not to use the office boys for cleaning their food plates either before eating and after eating.... One should clean their own plates after eating .... it is shame that other people cleaning our plate..... is it not shame on our part.... Instead of telling or sending circular tell them strictly the Directors and GMs to clean their plates after eating... Otherwise let them engage one boy ofcourse personally.... especially cleaning in all respects towards Directors and GMs.

Had I been in HR Dept. in your company I will send a circular not to employees but to your GMs and Directors only.....

Pl. do not try to send any circular to employees and by doing so you will be trouble.,.... because all the Directors and GMs will wash their hand once they are in trouble.... be carefull.... I mean....once the problem comes they may cooly to you that " you should have told me about this..." thats what they may say to you...

As a manager or supervisor/Directors, the simplest and the most effective way to uphold discipline is to act exactly in the way you want your subordinates to precede. so even I think that Instead of you Mr. Rajiv Directors and the seniors should take a call and they should start cleaning the plates so that they can show their juniors Employees that how much dedicated they are about the work.
