Dear Mr.Dipil,
The bus service we use from an reputed service provider. The drivers often makes accidents. Last month drivers of two buses carried workmen after 1st shift traveled in same route played each other while driving and collided each other and 32 people injured severely. Few days later an another driver rammed over a two wheeler and killed the rider and an another driver collided over an truck ...........really panic..
I consider the above accidents as an eye opener for the safety of the people carried by the cabs while coming to office and leaving the office.
Now I want guidance on
1. What safety measures can be taken against drivers?
2. What other safety measures can be ensured in the buses and other cabs used?
Regards,
SSM

Hi SSM,
Few things you can try to prevent reoccurance of such issues,
Training - Are the drivers contracted to your company undergone any training for defensive driving? If not you have to look into it urgently.
Speak Up - Passengers to be encouraged to speak up when they feel driver's behaviour is unsafe. The avilability of a passenger feedback book in the vehicle will serve the purpose.
Management Commitment - Management commitment is essential to ensure passenger's safety.Provide training, enforce it and take deciplinary actions when deviation occuers.
In vehicle monitoring system - This will be an added benifit.
Thanks,
Sam

Dear SSM,
Get in touch with your friends / ex-collegues of other companies to know the names of Contract Bus Service providers that they are using for their company. Find out if they are reliable. Network contacts will keep such issues down to a larger extent. Try going for references.

Hi, In this case, you should conduct a training on "Behavioural Safety" to your Drivers. It is psychological; but very useful. AZHAGESAN.P Exective-Employee Welfare, UAE

Attach financial penalty with the performance of the drivers. This might help as the transport company management will also keep a close eye.
Please instruct all of your employees NOT to engage in arguments / fights with drivers if they find he is driving harsh. Employees can leave the vehicle and can go / come on their own but they must not argue with drivers on road.

Please find attached defensive driving presentation for providing training to the drivers.
Find out faults/requirement from drivers:
1.Not interest in job due to more working hrs, less salary, timely food, tea etc first try to felt he is also one responsible employee.
2. If driver's age is less, please engauge aged drivers whoever not showing interest on unauthorised passengers pick up & long driving etc..
3.Induction for any new drivers absorbed.
4.On observation whoever good drivers hold & other removed from job after given notice.
Look various options in view of safety of employees..
