Though most of my work experience is in Marketing and finance, I am more interested in HR. I only have some published articles on the subject- http://mypyp.wordpress.com/
I have read books on how career transition is very tough even in a country like the United states. Ironically, that is the fundamental purpose of HR- to ensure right person in the right job and avoid square pegs in round holes.

Hi,
Since you have read alot on career transition..can you suggest me some useful tips.
I am a software engineer, with 1 year experience both in software development and HR.I have been working with campus recruitment and handled events in many campus for hiring freshers.
I am looking for a career in HR , so want to make a shift to HR.
Whats is the best way to make a move to HR dept. in my present company.
since i am in technology domain, as a developer, my present comapny would not alow me to make a move so easily..the major concern would be they would lower my compensation...
So, what is the right approach to make a transition.Plz suggest.

I am well read but that sort of thing is easy to do in the US, not here. I even have published articles on the subject but still it will be difficult to get someone to hire me.
In your case, if you are very sure then try doing a diploma on the side and try and pick up as many practical points from this forum(formats, presentations etc) or if you can associate with an independent HR company(know somebody there), try that. In your case, you don't have experience of HR related work as well. There is a "career change" resume in the US but not here. We unfortunately don't have a talent centric culture. If only there were short term coaching schools by HR professionals. They only transition is practically feasible.
IF you are serious, do it before you get married. After that it can be very difficult.

I have completed MBA specialising in marketing and have worked for approximately 3 years. After my stint in Marketing profiles I have realised that Marketing and sales is not my cup of tea in the long term considering travelling and sales. I Would like to add here that, I had interest in HR as well since graduation days, but since dual specialisation was not available I opted for marketing. Now I am pretty much clear that I want to take up HR as a career. Could u'll please guide me , the best way to enter into HR field. And how best can I apprach companies, considering this is a big career transition. Do you think a specialisation in HR is absolutely essential for a career in HR?

Hi guys,
I'm a professional with 8 yrs exp, 6 yrs in Marketing & the last 2 yrs in SAP as a faculty. Now I want to get back to the industry, but in a line related to Marketing, and into analysis.
Can you suggest what are the options for me? What's SAS all about? Can marketing professionals utilise it? what are the other options?
