I am from the HR field and have done my MBA in HR and IS. I am a consultant in HR and work in India and UK.

The slogan does not hold true largely as HR facilitates and is the owner to ensure intake of talent. It is the Line maneger or interviewer who selects or rejects.

HR goes deeper and ensures that the employee is given a smooth and happy passage in the organisation. Those who fail to realise this are arrogant and myopic.

Please tell your friends that 40% of the total cost of an organisation on an average is people cost. HR plays a vital role in the way it operates or should improve processed to make savings on this cost. This it should do by displaying ROI and Metrics and continuously improving processes.

Not all do it, but it is essential for HR to do it today. You do it in your course in your dialogue - talk ROI and Metrics the language of finance, talk internal corporate branding to marketings students, talk selling the corporate brand to attract talent, talk employee productivity to operations and you will see that they will not bother you.

This essentially means that gone are the days of welfare and personnel management. You have to go beyond models and talk savings and finance and hard core benefits HR of tomorrow will bring in.

Well as the slogan goes..
The best shall recruit the rest
fits exactly on the entrepreneur as all of the employees are actually working for him... So it is the entrepreneur who is the best.
I don't fully agree with Sankalp, as the recruiting process involves number of people and at each level the prospective candidate needs to clear. It is the duty of the HR Personnel to ensure that the employee taken would gel in the organization. His appointment should not bring in resentment from existing employees etc. In case, the HR personnel finds something fishy about the prospect's character or stress levels [or anything relevant], in that case it is the HR manager who would reject the candidate.

I agree with Mirza, what he says does reflect what I have written in my post. However, I have gone a little beyond what is commented. My point was as HR is not the only one but is the owner and largely a manager needs to be satisfied and thats why the interview - hence we cannot say HR the best shall recruit the best. A wrong decision by managers can make HR recruit the worst as well.
