Accoding to labour law and book of Standing Orders the probation period can not be more than 3 months. We take it as 3 months not more than that.

In the govt of India, the probation period is 2 years; in central public sector undertakings, it is normally one year, while companies in the private sector have their own rules, mostly six months

hi
a probationary is a term which an employee acquires the adequate skills to perform the job. Normally, it is the company policy to keep the period for 3 to 6 months. some companies may keep it for one year too. it does have any law to dictate on this period.
in some companies if an employee performance is not satisfactory, then the period will be extended for some more months.

Dear Nandani
In the private companies generally notice period is for 6 months. In case any employee does not perform then we can increase his probabition period after giving him extension letter.

Hi,
It is not the Probation period that is countable like 3 month, 6 month and even 12 month.
It is only the speed and accuracy of the candidate in learning the things faster and adopting the working of the desired role.

hi nandhini
it is the company policy to fix the period of probation, Normally it could be one year for junior level of employees and 6 months to 3 months for senior staffs.
as far as the labour law is concerned, you may refer to factories act for the definition of probation.
