Maternity leave of Govt. women employees increased

New Delhi (PTI): In a move that would bring cheer to women government employees, the Centre has increased maternity leave from three to six months besides introducing paid leave for two years to take care of their children.
As per the notification, which comes into force from September 1 and is issued by the Department of Personnel, women employees will now enjoy 180 days of Maternity Leave as against the existing ceiling of 135 days.
The 'Child Care Leave' provides a paid leave period of maximum two years (730 days) during the entire service of a woman "for taking care of upto two children whether for rearing or to look after any of their needs like examination, sickness etc."
It can also be availed of by a woman employee having just one child and be taken in addition to the extended maternity leave and will in no way affect the seniority.
The Child Care Leave can only be taken for children upto the age of 18. The order states that "Child Care Leave may also be allowed for the third year as leave not due (without production of medical certificate). It may be combined with leave of the kind due and admissible."
