Your question is very good. What i think matters more is knowledge rather than degree, coz its time of multitasking. If we hire people based on degrees, then we hire people of one specific skill, but if we are open tro hire people who have practical knowlwdge then obviously we are going to end up in a better deal.

One fact I forgot to mention earlier. Since you have mentioned the word degree. Functional passion can be gauged only by working and not in academics(not for everybody). As far as I know, there is not a single career coach or career transition expert in Inidia and even abroad, career transition is not the easiest of things. One has to get a degree(be practical) but one should strive to be in the right profession at an early age(prefrably before getting married) Changing careers becomes difficult with age and my mid life, you can get completely drained out if in the wrong career. To my opinion to start your degree from a premier institute plays a very important role but once you are into a job and you have proved yourself with your performance and skills no one can take your place...you will be the winner no matter from which institute you are....

I believe that passion for work is much more important than degree from premier instt. We can take the example of Bill Gates ( harvard college dropout ) and Late Dhirubai Ambani. Dignity of labour is more important.
Work is Worship.

The both are firstly not comparable because they achieve diffreent objectives.
However if I am forced to choose one, I would choose Passion; because a degree which is equivalent to knowledge can be obtained at any point of time; passion cannot.
Rather, we should encourage passionate high performers to obtain degrees from premier institutes.

In a performance driven organization, a degree is a passport to enter, after that it is your performance. In order to performance, a person need to have both talent (skills & knoweldge) and passion (strong interest). Talent without passion will not make you stand out of the crowd whereas passion without talent is a dream unfulfilled.
