Hi Amit,

Answer:

The People Capability Maturity Model (People CMM) is a framework that helps organizations successfully address their critical people issues. Based on the best current practices in fields such as human resources, knowledge management, and organizational development, the People CMM guides organizations in improving their processes for managing and developing their workforces. The People CMM helps organizations characterize the maturity of their workforce practices, establish a program of continuous workforce development, set priorities for improvement actions, integrate workforce development with process improvement, and establish a culture of excellence.

Before implementing this you read the literature which is available on

http://www.sei.cmu.edu/cmm-p/

Primarily this has been implemented by Major IT companies in India and is gaining a momentum.

Sometime back i had attended the workshop on P-CMM by L&T and they have the expertise in implementation of this and do help corporates.I don't remember the names of trainers now ..what you do is that go to the L&T site and am sure there would be some reference to that and incase i get the visiting cards - shall forward you the same.

Good Luck!

Hi Rajat, Is PCMM applicable only to knowledge driven organizations like IT?. Regards Durga

Hi Durga,
Answer:
Till now most of the Knowledge driven companies have implemented the PCMM as it requires to make HR practices systems driven than people driven to develop people.
It requires a lot of time & commitment from the Management & employees and resources...may be that's the reason it's been limited to IT companies..yet to come across non-IT firms who are implementing the PCMM!
Some of the initiatives can surely be implemented ...

Hi All,
People CMM is a conceptual framework, a state of the art Model of the Best HR Practices across the profession. It is a reference Model to implement and institutionalise the Best HR practices in an orgn.
However, it is to be noted that it has to be an Organisational Inititiatve and not an HR inititiative.
I was lucky to be a part og history. I was in the implementation of PCMM in a non-IT company at Mahindra Holidays & Resorts India Ltd. MHRIL, known well as Club Mahindra is the first non-IT Company in the world to be successfully assessed at level:III of the Model.
For conceptual understanding pls visit the site www.sei.cmu.edu and go thru' the PCMM section. The whole Model literarure is downlodable free in acrobat format.....
For more clarifications pls feel free to mail me....

P-CMM is applicable to any organization - it will have the greatest impact in an organization where you need to manage the competencies and processes of the organization. Which is just about any organization.
Check back issues of Economimc Times from last year (I don't have the issue at hand) to read about how Club Mahindra in Goa has used P-CMM and been appraised at Level 3 in their initial appraisal.

Hi, As mentioned, I was in the implementation team at Club Mahindra. It was helluva experience. Do ask me of queries if any....I shall be more than glad to try and answer....Cheers

Hi,
I agree that PCMM is not applicable only to software organizations, yes but they did take the lead and also it came from SEI which had also developed CMM/CMMI for software companies.
My experience indicates that some BPO organizations have implemented or are at various stages of looking at implementation. Club Mahindra has already done this.
As organizations are realising the strength of the model even other organizations are looking at implementing it.

Hi Kanishka

M sure it wud have been n experience of a lifetime 2 b involved in the implementation process of PCMM in a non-IT setup. Last week was at hte National HR Summit in New Delhi n we had a gr8 discussion on teh applicability of PCMM in SOftware vs Maufacturing & other industries

We had a large group of eminent Hr professionals 4m teh IT industry who had or were inteh process of implementing PCMM.

i've worked in the PCMM implementation at WIPRO TECHNOLOGIES as part of the Executive Committe responsible for PCMM implementation. Was a gr8 experience coz getting a chance 2 work in a project like this as a Trainee while it is so new in the market is rare.

Now m with a renowened global manufacturing concern n have always been thinking if can use PCMM here as well-bt have been 2 tied up 2 actually put it in practice...wud b gr8 if u cud share u'r experience -as 2 how dis the whole process takeoff-wat were the startign points, who all were involed, how long it took , how did u institutionalise the process, wat difficulties were faced etc etc...i know its difficult 2 write all this. so wud b gr8 if u cud send me ur contact number.send it on

lokkin 4ward 2 talk 2u
