What is the existing rule related to staff performing work on a declared holiday for an office that comes under Shops and Establishment?
From India, New Delhi
Hi,

If the organisation needs to be function on declared holiday, they need to take prior approval from concerned authority. The employees those are working are entitled to get double wages for the day and one compensatory leave.

From India, Madras
The existing rule is to pay double the rate to the staff performing work on a declared holiday. And in some states the payment at double the rate and a leave, please check your state rules.

Hi,
It varies according to state. Employer have to pay double the Basic salary as per their duty hours.
If someone's Basic is 12,000/- PM
He/she works 4 hrs in a declared holiday.
Then he/she gets (12,000/26/8)*4*2 = Rs.462/- extra from their salary.

Mr. Lakshmi Narayanan I think compensatory off is only for working on weekly off. Other holidays, they only need to give double rate overtime for working on that day.
From India, Mumbai
The compensatory off is only for working on weekly off and for the paid
holidays too. The rules varies from state to sate, in some state pay double rate or leave. But in some states pay the rate in double with a day of leave. There are establishments of continuous process follow flexible NH & FH , where an employee is free to take his quota of holiday as per his suitability.
