I am appointed as an 'HR' in a construction company. So basically I have to bring in HR practices. I am a fresher and straightaway setting up an HR department seems to be challenging. I don't know where to start?
What are the basic files I should maintain?
what are the policies I should start working on?
What are the excel formats I should maintain?
what are the software to have as an HR?
how do I manage time of employees ?
The management has completely thrown the challenge to me
and asked me to send a written plan
I need guidance on this. Please Help me as possible as you can
Thanks in advance.

Hello Priyanka Phore,

Since you have been appointed to handle HR department, I am sure you would have some requisite qualification for the same. So it would have been nice, had you made an attempt to jot down what all you intend doing and then seek the opinion of others for improving.

You can build on the following:

1.0 Preparing a list of all employees with all the particulars about their job, address, qualification, age, contact details etc.

2.0 Statutory requirements for a construction industry.

3.0 To get from contractor all the details of labourers.

4.0 Devise a format to see whether contractor fulfils all his obligations – say ESI, PF deduction, timely wage payment etc.

5.0 Payroll functions- coordinate with Accounts in-charge.

6.0 Maintain attendance records.

7.0 Formats of joining report, leave application, salary advance etc.

8.0 Employee Training details: Internal , external, Overseas(?) etc.

Initially information can be stored in any soft copy format (except for certain statutory formats as required) and later on you can switch as per need.

You can also refer in cite HR archives. You can also refer to DOWN LOAD threads and Related Information that you find alongside this thread. I have posted a Ppt on how to search the information. You can refer that in DOWN LOAD THREAD at the right side

of this message.

Goodluck in your endeavour,

Hi Priyanka
Polices and procedures are internal to the company and you will have to see the organisation structure, line management etc while framing it. If you need any assistance with statutory or legal part in HR, you can contact me at . I will help wherever I can as I also oversee the HR function in my company.

ESIC is not applicable to construction company so you have to take WC policy for your employee.
