I am HR Executive in one Service based company and i have been given a work to enhance or add new things in Joining and Joining Formalities.
Like a Welcome note prior to Joining, Joining Kit on day of joining.

You can also provide the following:
1) an orientation kit which explains about the job and the orientation plan as to how is inducted int his job.
2) A note on explaining functional hierarchy of the company
3) A note on company's culture etc.
