Dear Friends and seniors,

I recently attended campus drive in my college. The company is quiet famous three-letter one, one of the best in IT/ITES sector.

There were 4 rounds. 1.WRITTEN

2.GD

3.TECHNICAL &

4.HR. I had cleared all 3 and was sure of clearing the final one too. They had even collected my RESUME AND 2-P.P size photographs(they dint collect from others).

But I was literally taken-aback that my name was not in the list of selected candidates. They chose only 1 person per stream 1 in HR,1 in Marketing,1 in finance.

This happened around 2 weeks back and I have still not recovered from the shock.

I know I am good in my basic Presentation and communication skills. I did very well in G.D and Technical interview.

I have a very good academic track record. 86%in 10th,95% in +2,78%(first class with distinction in my B.E), and 7.42 cgpa in my MBA and I have work-experience of about a year (if that would count).

I was also completely prepared for HR related questions ESI, PF, Maternity benefits etc,...and Appraisal systems, Training and development related etc.......

I was asked around 12-15 questions in the panel out of which I answered around 10 and out of the ten I am sure atleast 8 were correct..

Now my queries,

Now my doubt is why I was not selected. Does the HR panel expect 15/15 correct answers from a FRESHER or what?

Also I on getting feed-back from some peers I heard that answering in DETIAL could be a (-ve)point for me. In the sense they feel I try and give elaborate answers.. Is it bad????????

My staff and Placement coordinators say its sheer bad-luck for me and also if it had been more than 1 person for HR then I would an immediate choice....as I am one of the best candidates in the college. Am I to believe them??

Last but not least I understand no one is perfect & I may have to improve somewhere so do Suggest to me some other areas where I really need to improve.

Also are there any courses I need to attend to crack the interview?

Any other tricks and tips are also most welcome and needed.

You could also REFER me any relevant job opportunities(FRESHER-HR).

Thanks and regards,

Sharranya V.Ganesh.

I feel that there was little transparency in the process and want to get feed-back as to why I was not selected.
Can I contact the concerned CONCERN and ask it(on personal account.)
Also they have my resume and other docs plus my photos, and I dont want it to remain with them. how can I get it back.
please clarify,

Dear Sharranya,

Greetings of the day!!

Dont be so consious about an interview. From your words, I fealt that you are totally fed up. There is no need to worry about past matters whatever it is. You have to look forward. So many great opportunitieas are waiting for you. From your Academic results, I can understand that you are a hard worker and great potential with you. So cracking an interviw is not a big matter. I am trying here to give answers for your queerie.

1) We dont know about the correct expectation of a HR panel. But we can do one thing before attending an Interview. Learn about the company, co. background, policies and study about the job description. Then you can understand about the expectation of the company.

2) Giving elaborate answers is a positive attitude. And if you required to give detailed explanation, you can inform them before giving an answer.

3) You can belive them. But at the same time you dont sit idle, you have to try for another job also. Dont be over confident dear Sharranya.overconfidence always leads to risk and failure. Before attending an interviw you first beat the over confidence with you.

4) There is no shortcut for cracking an interview. You can read lot of articles regarding interview here. I hope that you will get more confidence after reading those articles.

5) As per my view, You dont required to attend any course for cracking an interview. Read more books now and sharpen you memory.

Hope you will get a good job soon. Wish you all the best Sharranya. Be always Positive. May god bless you.

Thank you.

Hi Sharranya,
as per your query, HR people not only look for your hard skills (like the knowledge about ESIC, PF etc) but most of the companies specifically big brands also look for the soft skill (like communication skill, attitude, how to handle pressure, personality and appearance and many more.) List is very long and every organization focus on different criteria for selection of candidates as per their organization needs, culture and policies.
so don't get demotivated as this happens in HR and if you are going to pursue ur career in HR (I am not sure about this as you have not mentioned for which stream you applied for) u have to keep patience with it.
Also do remember, HR is a thankless job, we are sandwiched people between management and employees so be ready for that.
wish you luck for your selection in a good organization.
