Dear all,
No recognized/state owned university shall give M. Phil through distance mode now(from 2007 onwards they have stopped giving M Phil through distance mode). Phd can be taken through part time internal/external mode. Again all recognised and state owned universities conduct entrance exam for phd(if you are net/set qualified you are exempted from entrance exam). some universities make it mandatory to apply along with the guide and some others, on clearing the entrance exam and interview, provide their own university guides based on their availability. It is always better to undertake phd with State owned universities to avoid recognition problem in future. Getting registered for phd have become an herculean task unlike before. so carefully browse through the Universities consult with your friends and known persons before enrolling into the program.

Dear All
Presently UGC rules does not allow PhD or m.phil through correspondence. However, some of the university do allows Ph.d through part time internal/external mode. Normally in such cases, one need to attend regular classes for a few months and then continue the part of thesis. You can search the list of such universities through google. However, before taking admission, please be careful about recognition. You can get the details of recognition through UGC website or by asking question from UGC through RTI which UGC is bound to respond.
