You may first ensure that minimum holidays and leaves as are prescribed by the respective Act applicable to your establishment, viz, Factories Act, Shops and Commercial Establishments Act, or other, are given. Then frame a policy. For details regarding festival holidays please refer the National and Festival Holidays Act of your State. National Holidays, invariably be the same, ie, January 26th, August 15th and October 2nd, with the exception that in some states May 1st (May Day) is also a Public Holiday. For minimum number of leaves, casual, sick and earned, please go through the Shops and Commercial Establishments Act, if your establishment belongs to it. However, under Factories Act and Plantations Labour Act, only leave to which an employee is entitled is earned leave which will accrue when he works at least for 240 days in the preceding year and the number of leave to be given is at the rate of one leave for every 20 days worked.

The above are the minimum days of holidays and leaves but you can grant more holidays and leaves according to your interest.

Dear Neeta,
I agree with Mr. T.K. Madhu. He is clearly explained what you should do. Because leaves are differ from act to act and festival holidays are differ from state to state. Please do it accordingly as per Mr. T.K. Madhu.
