Dear Seniors, This is Abhas from Bangalore. I am working in an MNC as a Bussiness Operation Analyst on a contract basis. My question is all about politics in an office. I always am away from politics in office but those who joined the company after me are getting promotions and all but even after my good performance I am not getting any appraisal in office. All they have good links with higher management in our team and other teams also.
I just wanna ask, do hard work and sincerity not speak.. please have some light on me as I am getting so much frustrated and idol. Please help me out.

dear abhas,
welcome to the corporate "dog eat dog world". yes there's politics everywhere. your performance gives you increment. but for moving up, your relationship is valuable.
c'mon - i quote this often from our homes - our father will give preference to one kid, mother to another kid. both the kids come from the same source but there's partiality here.
being seen at the right place at the right time and by the right person is important. but don't indulge in back-biting or bitching. your being non-political is a help in case the management team moves on and his rival comes up. since you are not aligned with anyone and as long as you perform, a fair boss??? will give you what you deserve. else move on. but the problem is the same everywhere.

hiii abhas see there is politics in each organisation..so i would suggest u that u remain away from politics and remain focussed towards ur job...u perform well and def u will get good result....u believe in smart work rather than hard work...have a positive attitude and b professional then u r nt far away from success.

hi Abhas
when we enter any organisation we have to learn how to deal with these kind of problems. I would suggest you to talk to everyone in the office but dont indulge yourself in unnecessary gossips...you just need to focus on your work and performance...office politics is a temporary thing. In the long run what matters is your dedication and attitude towards work.

Hi Abbas,
Well as our friends told politics is every where. Why should we say it politics we can't we say it rapport building. Feeling that you dont involve in politics is a healthy factor but some where we fail to build proper rapport or good relatio with the our superiors.
I once faced similar kinda problem. But then analyzed why i was not selected for higher position though i was better performer. I understand that though my numbers are good but my rapport was not good with my boss. Then i started speaking to my boss and able to bulid a good friendship with him and finally i was on board.
The only thing i would say is let anybody think what ever end of the day its your job and your growth. Nothing should come in between.
My suggestion is " the best way to escape out of politics is BE A PART".

Hi Abhas,
ET carried an article on this couple of days back. It talks about the same problem you are facing. It talks about how perception of an individual working is more important then the actual work he/she is doing. Here's the link:-
It's how you're seen, more than what you do- Jobs-News By Industry-News-The Economic Times
Read it.
Will like to ask Sr HR professionals here as to whether they have this practice too? Plz express your view on this.

Hi Ameer
I really like the motto, But its true
the best way to escape from politics is to be a part of politics.
If we wont do this we will never come up.
Abbas!!!!
Please make a note of this.
one day you will succeed, if you do so and ALL THE BEST.
Thanks

Hi Abhas,
If you ask me the opinion, I will say there is no justice in the workplace. I have seen many incident from my previous employer till now. The one who can work diligently and achieve company objectives would not consider for career development!
Reason?? He/ She prefers to finish the task and doesnt every single thing report to top management. Maybe in that sense, the top management think that the employee is not a good communicator! But what is the point, if every single thing, an employee tell you the problem and lack of solution?
I must admit that in order to escape office politic, you must be a part of them! Otherwise they will not consider you as their team member. There is no I job in this world. Focus on your boss needs and you will be your boss 'pet' rather than nobody!

Sabrina
