Usually those who have done Masters in Social Work ( MSW) will be preferred as Welfare Officers. Since they have good theorital and practical knowledge about Employee Welfare.

Appointment of LWO is made as per the requirement of Factories ACT,1948. One have to go through the State Recruitment of Labour Welfare Officers Rules for examining the qualification for this appointment. In general M A (Social Work) is one of the recognised qualification for this appointment.

For become Labour welfare officer MSW is prefered.Because this post is recognised by the The Factory Act 1948 section 49 (1) ,qualification and other condition is determined by the state Govt. as per section 49 (2).

Dear Paul,
Appiontment of labour welfare officer is guided as per the rules set out in state labuor welfare officer rules. As for example for the state of West Bengal the required qualification are enumerated in the W.B. Factorie welfare officers Rules, 1971.

For Labour Officer in india the qualification requirements are:-
Post-graduate Degree/Diploma in Social Work or Labour Welfare or Industrial Relations or Personnel Management or in any other allied subject of a recognised University!
Institution or equivalent.
But Social Work students are given preference.

Qualification: A person shall not be eligible for appointment as a welfare officer unless he or she
a. possess a degree of a University recognized by the State govt.
b. has obtained a degree or diploma in any social science with Personnel Management , Industrial Relations and labour Werlfare as their papers or subjets from a University established by law in India or equivalent qualification.

Hi, Appointment of welfare officer is given in Section 49 of of factories act 1948.qualification required is MSW,MPM will also do.Knowledge of local langauge is also important.
