how can we calculate the EL for the year.i have basic knowledge but still some confusion.
if person join in mid like june 07 & now we have to maintain new leave register so can we give ELto him from jan 08.or we should show his name in EL register after completing 1 year from his joining.

Dear Nivedita,
Leave is calculated on pro-rata basis. Means calculated on number of days of service.
The example you have given.. for this first confirm with your HR Leave policy that after how much length of service he becomes eligible to avail the earned leaves.. most of the companies follow rule with 7 days during probation period and rest after confirmation on pro-rata basis.
But after confirmation, we calculate earned leave, even of probation period as well...
If any employee joins on 7th July and the total earned leave in year is 16.
Then after 6 month of service or confirmation automatically 8 days of earned leave will be credited to his balance..

Nivedita you are very true.. this is the minimum limit of earned leaves given against a work of 240 working days..
the rule is that it can be availed but can't be encashed during the calender year.. and according to rule for every 20 days of work one must get an earned leave.. It can be encashed in the same calender year only if he/she separates from the organisation..
If it had not been availed then how rule could be framed that upto 30 days of leave can be carried forward to the next calender year..

Hi Nivedita..... Earned leave is calculated as 2.5 days per month for incomplete half year.
Its 31 days in a year.....16 days e.l. is earned between 1st jan to 30th june ie. for the first half of the year and 15 days from 1st july to 31st december ie. for the second half of the year. for incomplete months half year it is 2.5 days per month for complete month.

Its 31 days in a year.....16 days e.l. is earned between 1st jan to 30th june ie. for the first half of the year and 15 days from 1st july to 31st december ie. for the second half of the year. for incomplete months half year it is 2.5 days per month for complete month.
