Hi Karuna,
RP(Received Pronunciation) is the accent considered as standard British Accent.
This is the accent of upper class and British Royal family, British Broadcasting(BBC) and radio.
For any ESL person this is the accent to be taught by. Apart from this there are many other
regional accent throughout the UK(Welsh,Scotland,England ).
Recently carried out Survey says that there only 2% of people in UK speak RP accent
(Example of notable speaker :David Cameron, The UK Prime Minister)
I would suggest to go with for RP and side by side know the difference of Estuary,Cockney.
