Dear Seniors, Generally, no leave is allowed during the notice period, but if an employee takes sick leave during the notice period, is it acceptable, or can we extend his notice period according to the sick leave he took during his notice period? Please advise.

If a person will be sick after submission of his notice of resignation, you need to accept the same and leave should be granted; you can also demand a medical /fitness certificate, if the duration of leave is more than 2 days.

Whether to extend his notice period, in proportion to sick leave he has taken, is purely your management's call.

Hi,

Ill health is some thing very common for all whether active employee or employee on notice period. So sick leave during notice period can be allowed. Whether to extend the notice period or not is at the discretion of the Management. In most of the cases the resigned employee will be advised to extend the notice period where the number of days leave availed is more. 1 or 2 days can be ignored provided the employee completed the assigned work during notice period.
