Home-grown ride-hailing application Ola has ordered an investigation into fraud allegations against the company’s HR and administration head, Yugantar Saikia, who was allegedly involved in favouring select recruitment vendors and in return receiving money estimated to be worth millions of dollars, according to a FactorDaily report.
An Ola spokesperson confirmed the development, claiming "there is an internal investigation which is currently on and one cannot give further details at the moment. For the purpose of the investigation, Yugantar is still on the rolls of the company."
Saikia was hired to head human resources for Ola in January 2015 and was also given additional charge of chief administrative officer in a few months.
He was serving his notice period and was expected to leave the company by the end of March, however, during the last week, his laptop was seized and he was asked to not report to work anymore.
The audit firm that has been brought in to investigate the fraud could review the employment of upwards of 1,000 people who were recruited from such external agencies in question.
My view:
Corrupt practise by HR in this case may have resulted in underqualified or unsuitable candidates getting employment in Ola.
