Hi Ramya,
Recruitment is a process of stimulating prospective employees to apply for a vacant position through advertising about any vacant position through advertising modes like positng a job in any Newspaper, Any Job Portal, etc.
Wherein, Selection is a process of choosing an appropriate candidate from the results received as part of the Recruitment Process. Its not that simple as Selection Process involves several steps wherein the candidate is put to various tests like Aptitude Test, Analytical Test, Simulation Test, Role Play, Inbasket and few other tests.
I hope this may be of little help to you.
Keep Smiling.

Hi Ramya,

To make it more simple to understand:

MEANING:

Recruitment: It is the process of searching candidates for vacant jobs and making them apply for the same.

Selction: It is the process of selection of right types of candidates and offering them jobs.

NATURE:

Recruitment: It is a positive process

Selection: It is a negative process

AIM:

Recritment: Its aim is to attract more and more candidates for vacant jobs.

Selection: Its aim is to reject unsuitable candidates and pick up the most suitable people for the vacant jobs.

PROCEDURE:

Recruitment: The firm notifies the vacancies through various sources and distributes application forms to candidates.

Selection: The firm asks the candidates to pass through a number of stages such as filling of forms, employment tests, interview, medical exam, etc..

CONTRACT OF SERVICE:

Recruitment: No contractual relation is created. Recruitment implies communication of vacancies only.

Selection: Selection follows recruitment and it leads to a contract of service between the employer and the employee.

Ramya,
Just intervening for a little clarity.
Promita and Manju have given most of the points that you require.
Have an observation, in the I presume, that the recruitment is overall 'whole' (matter of staffing), and selection is one part of that 'whole'.
There appears to be fundamental difference between what has been said earlier and this. It is not as if one finishes and the other starts. I understand that it all is within the jurisdiction of recruitment.
Please do not hesitate to correct me.If you agree with me, let us know.
When in doubt, turn to dictionary, one of the two friends that I trust.

SELECTION is a part of RECRUITMENT Only.
Recruitment is a complete prosess involving many activities.
Can we say the recruitment process is over unless we select a candidate.
So SELECTION is just one activity and very much a part of RECRUITMENT only.

Dear All,
Surprising that no one observed that the clarity was brought out on the subject by my earlier mail on the subject, clicked at 1.39 PM today by that one Line; Quote "recruitment is overall 'whole' (matter of staffing), and selection is one part of that 'whole'" unquote.

Recruitment is all about making a candidates to know about the opening with organization thorugh different sources i.e., ads etc and making candidates to apply for a job
Selection is a scrutinizing process of selecting right candidate for right job at a right time
