Dear All,

The Central Government has fixed Rs 10,000 as the minimum wage for contract employees across the country.

After the change in rule 25 (2) of the Wage Act, every contract worker (unskilled) will be entitled to receive Rs 10,000 per month. The Supreme Court has also given clear directions, taking into account the Consumer Price Index and variations in DA increases of the minimum wage.

In light of the apex court order, initially enhancing it to Rs 10,000, the government aims to establish a Universal Minimum Wage, which should be statutory. If the Wage Amendment Act is enacted, the government will proceed, he said.

Addressing a press conference, Mr. Dattatreya mentioned that under social security for the workers, the Centre has increased the minimum pension to Rs 1,000. Additionally, the bonus has been raised from Rs 3,500 to Rs 7,000. The wage coverage has also been increased from Rs 10,000 to Rs 21,000.

He highlighted that due to frequent disruptions of parliamentary proceedings, the schemes for workers' welfare could not be debated, prompting the government to proceed with some Executive Orders for the welfare of the workers. A decision has been made to pay the workers' monthly salaries through the bank.

The Labour Ministry has formulated the rules and sent them to the Law Ministry for approval. Within one week, a notification will be issued, after which all state governments will implement the decision on the minimum wage of Rs 10,000 for contract workers.

Dear Mr. Nanjegowda,

Even after one year, it is not done. This, you have written in March 2016, and the notification was issued on 30.03.2016. What will we do against it when the State Govt is doing nothing after one year of notification by the Supreme Court? Today is 11.05.2017.

In the Gazette of India, it is not mentioned that the minimum wage notification is applicable to all states of India. This lack of clarity can lead to confusion for the State Governments. If there is a notification that includes all states and has been shared with all State Labour Commissioners, please provide the latest notification regarding minimum wages set by the Government of India. The notification should specify all states and confirm that copies have been received by the respective State Governments. Your prompt attention to this matter is appreciated.
