Dear all,
I am working in a MNC Tier 1 IT organization in Chennai. My cousin is studying in a engineering college and i am asked to be a chief guest for an ingaguration ceremony that is to be held on tomorrow . Is it will be against company norms to go as chief guest to a college by respresenting my organization. Do HR will take any action against me if i go and deliver a guest lecture over there?
I have already comitted to the college staffs that i will give a guest lecture on Recent IT trend. now i am so confused. Pls help me.!!

Prabhu

The question is - what does your organisation's work rule say? Is participation in any external event explicitly prohibited? If not, I think you can go ahead and give a guest lecture / be a chief guest at an academic institution.
This will be accepted by your organisation as even the TOP management of your company must be speaking of Industry - Academia interactions etc.,
If you end up getting highlighted as a contributor to that institution in terms of your address and ideas it will only promote the image of your company.
Have a good Inauguration Ceremony :-)

It is suggested to put up a personal application through proper channel asking for permission to accept the invitation as guest lecturer. Also please add that you are attending the function in your personal capacity and not representing the company. Also, add to it that you will keep the reputation of your organisation at highest precedence and not disclose any vital/confidential official data. Lastly, make it clear that you are doing it only with a social point of view to motivate and inspire the youth and not receiving any additional financial grants for the same.

If you are declaring officially then you have to intimate to your organisation otherwise you can attend this function as chief guest
if you are finalcially benefitted you have to intimate to your organisation
organisation image is projected then you have to get permission
