I disagree with the above answers. Out of many interviews with employees from different corporations, organisations, these are the reasons..
1. Lack of leadership in the organisation, where you have managers and directors lack any understanding of people\'s personality differences.
They instead look only at productivity, revenues, systems, policies.
Therefore, the first one is people leave because the managers are not trained as leaders. They treat workers like assets instead of understanding this talent needs respect not bullying, intimidation.
The managers or higher supervisors have no clue on how to build relationship with the employees.
You got managers who shouldn\'t be managers. They cause friction, hurt employees and sow the seed of enmity and division.
2. The second reason is the lack of respect. Intimidating employees with outburst of anger in front of everyone, or in close meeting.
Including threatening them about doing the job right or they get fired.
When this happens often it creates more stress in the enviroment. The seed sown now is getting much stronger and can cause ill health.
You\'ll find workers going off sick most of the time because they begin to hate coming to work to see these managers.
3. This causes the third one. Lack of moral. They lose confidence in the compnay, in it\'s values which is in tatters and the leadership.
The work they love is now becoming work they don\'t enjoy due to the environment and how they are being dealt with.
4. The employee feels fear and might get blamed for some mistake. They cannot communicate to these managers or the directors. They cannot share their ideas and disagree too.
All because of fear they\'ll be ridiculed, shouted out and fired.
5. Promotion is given to those who are not qualified, who are not skilled in the field.
They are managers who lack any people skills, qualification and specialised skill for example in programming and software development.
6. Micromanaging. Being controlling, not letting the employee to focus on results. Instead they get them too busy on paperwork, task sheets, and ongoing meetings or discussion which are not needed. This is what we call Psycho managers.
7. Environment becomes competitive in a negative way. More people don\'t lead and think the only way to promotion is to suck up to managers and the boss.
This is when you begin to lose more talented people, who can find job anywhere. They got real specialised skill, experience and most of all....their values are strong.
Notice I didn\'t say anything about payrise?
Why? Because these are emotional reasons which makes employees sick, unhealthy, loss of moral, loss of joy for work, fearful.
People do not do things cause of logic but because of emotions.
Now we get to logic..
9. Relationship with boss is not healthy.
10. Overall organisation culture stinks.
11. Lack of opportunities to be promoted and pay rise.
12. Lack of leadership with Human Resources who do not stand up for the employees. Instead keep quiet and only help managers and higher up.
13. Lack of recognition. The boss or managers recognise manager but does not recognition and show appreciation to the team that helped the manager.
This is manipulative, very deceiving and a tactic that will backifire.
These are the reason why the MOST talented leave companies. Even if pay is high. They cannot take anymore of the insult and also the feeling of working in such a unhealthy environment and organisation culture.
