Just came back from a meeting with one of our prolific members – Rajat Joshi. He had come to Delhi with some official work and was kind enough to take out some time to meet with me. We had a nice long chat while I gulped in two cups of coffee and he nibbled on his sandwich lunch accompanied with an ice tea. It was a pleasure to talk about how much he enjoyed the website, possible future expansion ideas and some of our other prolific and popular and adventurous members :icon1:

We kept throwing ideas at each other and here’s a brief synopsis of our discussion:

1. Possibility of starting up offline HR meets – initially city wise with one of the senior members as the head organizer. Rajat is willing to start this for Mumbai so we may just start with that. The first meet would probably just be a casual lunch meet with introduction sessions and some games – basically to let the members get to know each other better.

2. Possibility of having an assignment based section on the website where senior reputed members will be able to post assignments which can be taken up by management students. The assignments will be small research or survey tasks – the students will complete the assignment that will then be approved as complete by the senior member. Once the assignment is complete – the assignment will be posted on a separate section and a online certificate will be issued to the student which will be an addition to his/her resume. The certificate will have a link to the original assignment page on the CiteHR website along which can be checked by future employers of the students – a reference email will also be provided by the senior member in case the employer wants to get some feedback about the student.

3. An Annual CiteHR Mega meet which will feature talks from some of our senior members on topics of their choice [any subject they have studied and discussed passionately], company stalls from various HR related product companies, online and offline sponsors of the meet who will be allowed time to give a short presentation to all the participating members.

4. The long awaited CiteHR T-Shirts – sales of these T-Shirts will contribute to the annual CiteHR Mega Meet.

5. The controversial rating system and a possible inclusion of a minimum post length system to avoid single line posts or improvement on the points system so that short posts do not gain the same number of points as long informative posts.

6. Improving the recent articles section to NOT include HumouR or Day Life section so that the website is more professional and focused. However, the HumouR and other such sections will be available in the Active Posts section.

I would love to get more feedback on these topics and would like everyone to participate in a survey that I will be conducting in a few days to list the number of members in each city [for the HR meet]

Hi....

Sorry could not be on the forum for a long time... will be back by Jan 2006...

That's great to know that you and Rajat met.... that would have been one great meeting...

my suggestions...

1. Possibility of starting up offline HR meets

that would be great.... would be waiting for one to happen in Ahmedabad... if not by Jan2006... maybe i may also be able to host one for this forum

2. Possibility of having an assignment based section on the website where senior reputed members will be able to post assignments which can be taken up by management students.

A good Idea... but I believe that management students already has lot of assignments to finish.... why not include some junior executives who might be more than willing to participate to show their calibre.

3. An Annual CiteHR Mega meet which will feature talks from some of our senior members on topics of their choice [any subject they have studied and discussed passionately]

Agree

4. The long awaited CiteHR T-Shirts – sales of these T-Shirts will contribute to the annual CiteHR Mega Meet.

Waiting for a long time.... just announce and consider it sold....

5. The controversial rating system and a possible inclusion of a minimum post length system to avoid single line posts or improvement on the points system so that short posts do not gain the same number of points as long informative posts.

I think that the single line posts anyway gets lesser points... as for the total number of posts.... maybe something should be done to reduce spam...

6. Improving the recent articles section to NOT include HumouR or Day Life section so that the website is more professional and focused.

Hey man.... that would be dangerous.... many of us actually used Humour for break from hectic days work..... don't even consider that.... lot of members may actually start visiting only the humour section and would be totally unaware of what's going around in the main section... this may actually be loss to us...

Some more suggestion

a) Start a query section.... It is high time that a query section be started and the queries be sticky to the top till it is answered ....

Namaskar Friends.

I was the first to view this post and I was thinking that there will be overwhelming responses. The proposals no doubt deserve serious consideratin. However, I like to give my views only on points 2 and 5.

2. Research projects. It is the most welcoming proposal. The structure to moot the proposal may be finalised at the earliest. The priority areas must be need based and decided in advance to help focus in the areas of interest. From the psychology side I consider the following two areas as top priority:

A. Standardisation of necessary psychological tests.

B.Adaptation of foreign psychological tests to be used in India.

5. Actually here are two issues:

A.Ratings- In fact, for measurement we always depend upon ratings but the instruments are so framed that the value/emotion loaded items are eliminated in the standardisation stage. Second, while calculating the central tendencies, decision is taken as to which central tendency is to represent the best. This is not possible here. It appears that ratings are more often are guided by emotion rather than judiciousness. Hence, I think the user ratings be dropped.

B.Day life/Humour- Both are necessary and both are serving therapeutic purpose. In day life forum pent up feelings and emotons are ventilated and one gets feed back from others' feelings and emotions. However, the name of the forum "day life" is somewhat incommunicable.

So far as humour is concerned, it is very much necessay in life. I agree with Mirza saheb but only I think that the frequency be optimum.

So to streamline and to make more purposive, these two forums may be combined into one and be renamed as-LIFE AND LIFE STYLE.

Thanks,

regards.

That is absolutely great that you guys met up?infact I have been telling Rajat that I too would love to meet up with him.

Great ideas Dr. Ji?.only wish I too could have been part of this get together.

All the suggestions listed out are great I?d just like to add mine to the 2nd point on research projects as well as to what Dr. Ji had to say?

Apart from.....

A. Standardisation of necessary psychological tests.

B.Adaptation of foreign psychological tests to be used in India.

I'd like to add:

C. Designing & developing new Psychometric tools [to be designed by people from cite HR who understand the rigors of Psychometrics]. These tools to be standardized through India so that we have Indian norms. Getting these tools published in international journals & accredited by national & international bodies.

Other Ideas

Why not have exclusive training programmes city wise for cite HR members so that we get to see the workability & training efficacy of the various competency models.

It would be great if we can have specialized group of experts on each area of HR, so that others can direct their queries to each of these committees who in turn can provided valuable feed back to everyone eg: Compensation & benefits committee, Soft Skills Training Committee, Psychometrics & test development Committee etc. This would give us a better idea as to which members specialize in what areas rather than every one commenting on every thing. Just trying to introduce a little more structure. Further each committee or association would be responsible for constant updates from across the world in that particular field.

If we can just implement all the ideas that have been penned down then I think we would be making history.

Cheers to a world of endless possibilities!
