Friends,
One of my client is a very small organisation in the health research. As per work load, I understand, maximum 2 staffs are enough for their finance department, . But due to attrition rate, they hired two more staffs in the concerned department to keep as extra backup. It seems that, due to less work, people get enough time, they could not engaged themselves effectively. As time passed, negative thinking developed against the organisation. Due to sufficient time they search jobs and and tree people left the job and now only one person is working in the organisation. Can anybody help us.

Dear Chaitanya Sahoo,
I need little more clarification in what you have written in first two sentences. You have written that your client "is a very small organisation". In that case why do they require "Finance Department"? Or is it that "Accounts Department" is labelled as "Finance Department"?
For a "small organisation", why not to outsource accounts work? Why not to approach some agency that provides accounting services and installs their own manpower at the client's site? They can be given responsibility for handling routine accounting work to "account finalisation".
If there is attrition in Accounts/Finance department, then were the exit interviews conducted? If yes, how come nobody projected this idea of outsourcing? Though they are from finance/accounts, how come it did not occur to anybody to do "Cost Benefit Analysis" (CBA) of outsourcing of the accounts activity?
Please confirm your views on my above solution.

Yes, pls read finance department as accounts department, and organisation annual turn over is Rs.12 crore and they are in to development.sector. As per project guidelines, they can't outsource the work, they have to keep permanent staff in accounts department.

Dear Chaitanya,
If there is attrition in one particular department, then its reasons need to be studied. Secondly, was the wrong recruitment reasons for attrition? Is it the case that one person continues to work whereas there is rotation of manpower among others? Is this the person responsible for attrition?
Accounts Department has lot of confidential work. Is it the case that the persons who left failed to gain trust of the employer? Opposite scenario to this is too much of distrust of employer on the Accounts staff.
There has to be some reason. Call all the staffs who left earlier. With skilful questioning, you will be able to find out the truth.

For obvious reasons, if additional 100% staff is hired as back up, either they must be trimmed or appropriate work load has to be created for them. Additionally, it seems that people are hired & left on their own without being inducted properly. It's a move on wrong foot & has reflected in the approach of the business owners, somewhere they must be wanting the same.

Hello Chaitanya,
You mean to say when two people were sufficient enough to cope up with the present workload in Accounts /Finance Dept., your firm hired two extra people for the same job as backup. Three of them have left now and only one person is working. If you are the person who has to work now (I hope so), please approach your superior and share your concern with him. Share with him your ideas to deploy that excess manpower in some other valuable tasks in the interest of organisation if the existing trend is going to continue.
Meanwhile, take it as a good opportunity to manage the workload by your own and show your abilities. That calls for meticulous planning. Give it a thought and you will be successful.
