Hello Seniors,
I have a query, Currently I am working as an Associate (CSA) and also pursuing my MPM from Pune University. As I want to become a Professional HR.
My question here is, How should I start my Career in to HR?
Do I need to start from the base again after completing my MPM or is there any other way?
Will my ops experience be counted in corporate firm?
Please suggest I need your help, I am concerned about my future career.

Dear Shankar,

First things first for you to begin any career is to be a good communicator, it'll be super good in HR, if you can speak and write well.

Your query is like a 'puzzle "What is (CSA), What is (MPM), Ops.. short form for Operations.

Some like me can figure this out pretty quickly, the others might not be able to figure out what this is all about and it is just possible it might not evoke any response from them.

So the fundamental principle would be: Ask the right question, in the manner that it can be understood and deciphered in order to get the result you seek.

I say this because you've asked a query and a lot of questions pop out.

For instance: Member Since: Dec 2013, United States West Palm Beach (if you enrolled into CITEHR when you were in the US, please change the status). Currently I am working as an Associate (CSA) and also pursuing my MPM from Pune University (It's got to be Distance Education).

So you see there are a lot of assumptions and presumption to be made.

You say your are working in CSA (Computer Science Associates) and into Operations (Specify role played and tasks performed).

This implies you are not into HR but want to move into HR, suggesting that the degree is to support your candidature. It is evident then that you want to change your career path.

The next important principle would be: To receive the best advice provide the right data.

I know that, I have written in short forms which does not clearly states.. I accept that but I really want to know how I may jump into HR as currently I am working in Operation on Associate level, should I continue with on the same level and try for Internal Job Postings or I may try outside as an admin executive and gain some experience.

I have a query. I recently started working as a HR executive and i m the only person in my company have to take care of everything recruitment,payroll and performance appraisal.
My question here is, actually 1 of the employee in my company is leaving his job and tomorrow is his last working day..
I just want to inform the rest employees regarding his farewell party. so, how can i intimate everyone in the mail. please send me the matter of the mail.please help me out its very urgent.

Dear Shankar,

Your posting is much clearer now.

My personal suggestion would be

1. If there is a chance and an appropriate opening in HR take it up if it offers you a good career path, by which I mean you get to work on Learning and Development, Performance Management as these are slightly close to what you may be doing in your present role that of operations. There is some work you need to do to upgrade your skill however there will not be a struggle. This can later help you move to Compensation and Benefit, that too when you get to know the industry and the business model of the company in which you are presently unless you want to change.



2. If you get neither, Learning and Development, Performance Management, then it is best to stick to your present Operations role

3. Do not take up Administration as thee isn't much scope for growth, and you will end up doing a lot of not so very interesting things. Also it doesn't need an MBA Degree to be wasted on fixing things.

Glad to hear that you've moved to HR responsible for end-to-end activities being the only person, of perhaps a small start up. First the best wishes for your future.

Now on to your query, on what to write to intimate to your employees about a farewell party to one employee who is quitting and you want a draft immediately.

My response to this is plain and simple, as one in HR you should not be the one who intimates and brings people together to give someone a farewell party unless that person has served in the organization for long and is retiring. If it is an employee resigning a leaving your company you should actually be feeling sorry that you are losing an employee, who is going for better prospects, and that suggests you need to work more on how you should be able to retain people, and the management should actually analyze as to why he is leaving. Is it for better technology, growth, money, poor environment etc.,or a combination of all.

If anyone is interested in awarding the employee a farewell, ensure that it is done privately and well outside the office.

Thanks a lot for your suggestion, I have a one more query.
If there is any HR opening in my current firm where I am working, can I apply that without my Degree or I should wait for my degree to be completed, will they give me a chance without certificate?

If there is an opening you might take it provided you are sure you are going to get your degree soon, else you will find yourself wanting. Openings do not come very often, neither do opportunities, however, what you do with the opportunities is what matters. Opportunities are like the heartbeat you can't afford to miss one.
