Need this information urgent can any one help me by answering this question

For all purposes,
Calender year = Jan - Dec
Financial year = Apr - Mar
Depending on situation some people follow calender year, some financial year...
Even in HR, most firms practice calender year for leaves, performance, etc
and financial year for compensation / salary , increments etc.
Hope this helped...

Dear Ankita,
Yes you information was helpful but have one doubt that our company started in the month of March and most employee joined after March but our Manager is saying we will keep it March to Feb (Leave records) so it will be easier to maintain so is it legal or illegal?

From India, Khopoli
Are you under factory act or shop and establishment ? You need to see the leave rules under the relevant act and rules to see if there is any provision to follow Calendar year only.

Sec 2 (32) of Bombay Shop and Establishment Act clearly says that Year is a Calander Year - commencing on 1st day of january.
So in Maharashtra, no, you do not have the option of keeping leave records for anything other than a calander year.
Further, it states that those who have worked for 240 days in a year, irrespective of the start of employment is entitled to at least 21 days of leave. And those who have worked for more than 60 days in a year are entitled to 5 days of leave.
For delhi, you will have to check what is the rules provided under the Delhi Shop & Establishment Act

hello dear,
mostly companies are follow calendar year for hr activities, either company started feb or march . because it is easier to follow calender year jan to dec. there are so many activities in hr like:
*leaves
*performance appraisal
*rewards system etc ,
and if your company started in march then you can adjust leave in such a way:
if company give 24 CL in a year it mean you can take 2 leaves per month . there for from march to dec company will give =24-4(2 leave & 2 leave march ) 20 leave .
same as in performance appraisal system :
you can check 10 month performance of the employee in the end of year .
