Hi everyone,
I need a help from you all.
I want to know as per OHSAS or any other Standard is it necessary that when we appoint an electrician is it necessary that he needs to have a electrical license or based on his previous experience can we appoint him.
Also it is the same case with the help of welders. Is the previous experience sufficient to hire them or do we have to make him go through the Govt Welding test process
I hope you guys understood my question.
thanks and regards

Dear Vamsi,
No crediencials should be needed for Electrians and Welders. If its addressed on contract yes, you have to meet that requirement if not just get the Experianced persons.
We ruining through a same issue last month.

Dear raghu Sir
In OHSAS we have Competency, if the auditor asks about the competency of choosing contract electricians we can just show his past experience details and that should be fine
thanks and regards

Dear Vamsi,
As per legal requirements and as per OHSAS , you need to prove their competency. For electricians after appointing you need to get them certified through chief electrical inspector of concerned state beside being having state recognized ITI/diploma in electrical/electrician trade. For welder, the employees should have certification in welder trade.

Dear Vamsi,
Be it electrical or any other engineering job, all needs great attention towards safety of men as well as material while working. Hence the people deployed should be aware of the safety practices. So you need both : Qualified as well as experienced.

Dear Vamsi,
OHSA standard does not specifically say that an individual has to get certificate from a particular agency or body or a particular diploma type for any particular institution. All it says is personnel should be certified/trained for performing the required job by either getting trained by the current company or in his previous organisation. This evidence can be either thru a certificate or thru a technical CV of the individual. When it comes to Auditing the auditor will definitly ask you to show the proof of his qualification and training certification.
I hope this helps.

Dear Mr OR Ms. Vamsi,
Normally for any kind of operation only Doctor / Surgeon will operate.... is it not.... OR You can operate or I can ???
Your question is similar to this......
Select the appropriate trained and certified and qualified candidate for the appropriate job though you have to pay the stipulated wages. For any reason pl. do not put yourself in dark by selecting candidates without any concerned qualification for the concerned job.
If you and me operate a patient what will happen to the patient and the same will happen if you select the wrong candidates for the right job... OK ALL THE BEST VAMSI
