I am writing to you with regards to my issue with the notice period in my company.I am working in a consulting firm in Hyderabad, my on paper notice period is 15 days.I kept my resignation on 2nd January and my manager accepted it on 4th January.The reason behind my resignation was to pursue a new and challenging opportunity which I have to join on 16th January.Can I have your views and suggestions on this because my HR says your notice period would be accountable from the day the manager has accepted your resignation.Kindly provide if any alternate measures available.Waiting for your responses eagerly.

Your Manager is right. Your notice period starts from the day it has accepted and you have to complete this period.
And the solution to this problem is that you need to speak to your new employer and tell them that as per your notice period you have to stay with them (Current Employer) for more two days with this reason. Im sure your new employer will also understand your concern and allow you to join after completion of your notice period with your present employer

Every employer has a common set of rules which has to be followed by the employee on the standing orders apported. I second Anil ji, as the new employer would appreciate your instinct and infact its a great gesture for any employer having such a proven employee. However, this should be a strong point to be considered which you may putforth to your future employer.

There is no problem just discuss with your present employer and request him to adjust the relieving by requested date and assure him in writing that after joining the new Company you will help them in sorting out any pending matters and spare the time for them if required.I feel they will agree to your request as they appears to be very genuine people. In case if due to some reason they are not in position to accept the request, discuss the matter with the new Company and advise them all the details of your problem and discussions with you old Company and feel they will surely oblige you by shifting the joining date to 20th Jan or so.
So don't worry too much and follow the proper procedures and matter will get sorted out.

Yes all should follow the rules which was agreed before joining and explaining the same to new employer will strong point to be recruited as they can understand that you are not violating the rules.
