As per Factories Act, the total working hours per week shall not exceed 48 hours per week an dnot more than 9 hours per day. Thus you can fix 9 hours per day. .There is no issue about weekly offs.

Dear Ashok,
Under section (u/s) 51 of Factories Act: No adult worker shall be required or allowed to work in a factory for more than 48 hrs in any week.
U/s.54, subject to the above rule, no adult worker shall be required or allowed to work in a factory for more than 9 hrs in any day.
Hence if u engage any worker more than 9 hrs in a day, you need to pay OT.

Dear Friend,
Pl. consider the following situation :
1) Working for 9 Hrs. x 5 Days = 45 Hours. What is lost is 3 Hours only.
2) Instead if you call for Day 6 Pl. understand the following :
a) Anyway after 1 or 2 hours please get the holiday mood. No proper work.
b) People tend to go on leave on other days to complete their personal and pending work.
c) You will be spending money on office maintenance for the 6th day incl. Lighting/Food etc. etc.
d) Ee will be spending the day waste + To and Fro Conveyance Exp. etc.
3) Be smart by accepting a little less... Increase the productivity more in the 45 hours in way of improvised morale and motivation and mutual understanding relationship.
It is afterall the performance that is going to count and not the no. of hours of physical presence.
Let every member consider this in their work place please.
Thanks,
