Hi all,

The past 3 days has been indeed very challenging. It made me to think how frustrating can hr job be and the perception we receive from workers / staff of us.

I have been initiating 15 show cause letters to my workers. The astonishment is that these are not plain workers instead key personnels of the company who are in supervisory level. The have been found neglecting their primary responsibility and divulging on their own matters of interest. After 2.5 days initiating the letter, i feel my face is so thick to even walk out from the office.

No doubt being bold and way objective when the letter is presented, mentally i wish i dont have to be the one to award the honor. In the name of god, it is just a show cause letter but the reaction received was overwhelming, my supervisors would have wished their well wishes for me in their mind and heart, not to add all the bad mouthing i receive when they step out from office.

Indeed, as much i dont fancy to get a dirty linen clean , the company seems to have the best interest and i am sadly alligned to it. I feel walking back home after work like a handphone with 1% of battery level. As much i can proudly annouce the experience i would have fetched all this years i dread as much to have gone through this phases in my life.

Mercy is a word that is so exclusive that you are not allowed to provide to your resources and you are not bound to have to in your HR career. Well, i guess as the tough gets going , the going gets tough..

I aspired to be a hr personnel , now as a Sr Human Resources i do not doubt myself making to the top but i wonder how long i would have the same courage to walk in path that seems to have no roses except thorns...

Feel free to share your thoughts on my grounds, any words will be taken to hurdle the road of challenges :) have a good day !

p/s hopefully not many dirty linens tomorrow :)

Dear Amigail,

You have some fundamental differences in understanding the nature of your work.

HR or in any other managerial function one must think from the head and not from the heart. I have written this in my earlier posts also.

Why the things have come to such a pass that supervisors are required to issue the show cause letters? It is because of their dereliction of primary responsibility. Who is responsible for allowing things to come to such a pass? They themselves. Then why are you feeling badly about it?

You are primarily employed to protect the interest as well as image of the company. The action is taken in the interest of the company. By issuing show cause notices to poor performers, your company is fostering culture of discipline. Then where is the problem?

When show cause notices are issued to the supervisors, it sends the message to one and all on your company stands for what. Businesses do not run on mercy but on the performance.

Stop this self-flagellation. What you have done was part of your job. If you had failed in issuing the show cause notices, then possibly you also would have ended up getting the same one.

Look at the positive side of your job. There is no point in being "part of the gang". Linen need washing when these become dirty. Clean linen do not need any washing!

Ok...

Hey Amigail,
The very thing of issuing memo's to non- performers is a good sign of employee communication and involvement. The workers/staff that you reffered to should have some nominal integrity and commitment towards they job.
Certainly, i'm glad if you thought in grounds of being a responsible HR and in the employers dimensions.
Hope you got the inputs as so....

Hi Amigail,
I really agree with Dinesh. Things may have even gone worse if this was not stopped at this moment. The Only Question which you have in your mind is Why "Me" Well this is Good Experience to you .When a part of body is hurt getting cleaned up is the best thing u can do when it is Fresh Instead of Getting it Amputated from you body . At the Instance if a Small pain hurts you the how will you bare when its a big one so you should be always prepared.Well if you woudent have taken this step today then may be in future there would have been necessaty for the Suspension letter. So what ever happens its for good.
Thanks & Regards
Umesh
If there is a way i will find one if there is none i will make one

Dear Amigail
Initiating disciplinary action is always a thankless job. But once the issues are over one can settle down for other works. As already written Mr. Dinesh, there is no need for self flagellation. People will always desire compliments and not otherwise. Hence any one receiving show cause notice will always throw adverse remarks about HR. In such circumstances, all the people on Mgmt side should not identify any one as having taken the decision to initiate action, but should tell it is the collective decision of Mgmt.
After receiving SCN if they had realised and admitted their mistakes, suitable training programme shall be arranged to inculcate their responsibility towards the organisation, which would set right the imbalance caused by the disciplinary action. Those who do not have feeling of remorse shall be given deterrent punishment. It is a natural course in any organisation and hence the happenings should not be taken to heart.
