Dear all,
Ours is a service organisation and we have a software department. Wish to know what is the permissible official work timings? Is 8 hrs per day mandatory? Can we have 9.5 hrs per day (including lunch and tea breaks) for 5 days and have saturdays and sundays off? That comes to 47.5 hrs per week. We work from 9 to 6:30 for 5 days a week.
Kind regards,
SH

HAI SUNITA,,
From the organisations that I worked the following were the timings:
1. central govt organisation.
Time 09.30 to 06.00 [some ppl come at 10.00]
Lunch: 01.00 to 01.30 [some like us take 20 mins some take 1 hour]
2. Multinational Mfg Company.
Time 08.30 to 05.00
Tea1. 10.30
Lunch. 12.30 to 01.00
Tea2. 03.30
the office timings get over at 05.00 but everyday at 05.30 there is tea and breakfast, for those who stay and work late, and almost 99% of employees work till 06.00, 06.30, 07.00, 08.00 so some daily work 10-12 hrs. but on official records it is shown as office timings is from 08.30 to 05.00.
Instead of changing the times officially, here there is mutual understanding and because of workload, the employees need need need to wait after 05.00 . hence breakfast also provided everyday.
As far as changing times is concerned that would involve legal matters I thnik so.
Better have mutual interaction with employees. May i know total emp strength of office, and how many dept heads are there.

Hi Ravi,
Thanks for the info. As per your info, MNC Mfg company timings 8:30 to 5, is it 5 days a week or saturday is also working? I need the information to put in the employee handbook. So, it has to be legally correct. What is the legal view on this? Can we have work timings as 9.5 hrs a day for 5 days, is 47.5 hrs per week officially?
We have no problems in implementing. Employees are putting this much, sometimes even more no. of hours. For your info, we have software, technical and marketing depts.
Kind regards,
SH
