Good Evening All,

Once again I am writing a question or we can say one confusion regarding Career.....

I worked for almost3 yrs into Recruitment and General Administration. I left my previous job without anything in hand only because of no job satisfaction,i was jobless for more than3months recently I appeared for an interview in a reputed education institute, a management college for Lectureship. They offered me first an admin executives post later on confirmed as a Placement Assistant position with a promise to give me a chance to enter into lectureship, but offered a very less salary i e half of whatever i was getting previously. I joined. At the same time i got offer from a small industry where only one HR is working means scope to work practically, they asked me to take care of Recruitment,General Administration and salary processing. they are also offering me same salary like college. That company is a small manufacturing company.

Now the main problem I am having is :

I left my old job only because there was no work ,no value addition although I have favorable conditions like salary and other things but no job satisfaction. I am very much eager to learn HR practices. My Destination of career is into Academics. But i am confused what to do now?

I have committed Management of this college that I wont leave institute if i get any good offer. But without any Industrial experience can one be a good Academic/ Lecturer? I am quite shy type of person. so sometimes feel its very awkward and difficult to close placement target, as it need lots of interactions with Company persons and hammering target closure. I cant leave this institute because if in future i will be able to do good lecturership ,with experience and all but these people wont take me because they might think as I broke my commitment once, with this fear I am not able to decide what to do or to leave this institute.I respect management who have appointed me here, But I want to work on HR as well as do career as a Lecturer.

What should I follow??? I am tensed a lot. What to do plz suggest.

Hi Awanthi

You haven't mentioned your qualifications. But that apart lets try and understand your problem a little more clearly, shall we?

1. You worked in an organization for 3 years. It was in Administration and recruitment. You also have not mentioned what kind of organization it was. In these 3 years, you decided that you were not getting satisfaction in what you were doing. So you left your job abruptly. Now Think about it...

a. What was you problem the organization or your function

b. If it was your function, was it admin or recruiting

c. What was the real reason for leaving your job. Was it really lack of satisfaction or excess of frustration

d. What was the actual source of your frustration

e. Did you leave your job because of the organization or your boss.

2. Now you feel that you should go into academics

a. Why?

b. Is it because your initial experience in corporate / private sector is bad

c. what makes you think in lectureship you do not communicate (since you are shy)

d. Why do you feel you will succeed in academics

3. You have a job with an institution as a Placement Assistant with a promise to look into your preferred posting later

a. Will the promise be kept

b. What if you do not do too well as a placement assistant

c. Will they still give you the opportunity in lectureship

d. what if they dont

So many question needs to be thought about and answered. But the bottom line is simple.

FOLLOW YOU PASSION!!! FOLLOW YOUR HEART!!! you are young, hence can experiment. Don't worry about mistakes and failures. Both of them only make you better.

If you need my help to decide, email me and lets connect.

Hello Avanti,

Absolutely valid comments by Mr. Navneet.

You should not have left your first job without having anything in hand as then you can not negotiate for a better salary / profile. Nevertheless, such experience teaches us lessons.

If your heart is in teaching and if your gut feeling says institute will allow you for lecturership one day, you may continue. (You can better assess and judge). By the way, has institute committed any time period for that ? You may ask them the timespan politely.

The second aspect, considering your personality (you mentioned you are a shy person) think on the lines you will have to take efforts on being aggressive, assertive and talkative which I feel are essentials for the lecturership. Prepare yourself accordingly.

If you aim at establishing yourself in HR Generalist profile, the small manufacturing unit will offer you more scope and experience for the same.

Now it is upon you to think & decide on your priorities and preferences, financial aspects and your interest area. Don't get confused, write down on a paper the positives and negatives of each option and select what appeals you most.

All the best !
