Dear All, I am working in HR Dept with one company where we have 6 days week working culture and we have weekly off on Sunday. Recently I have proposed 5 days week culture so that all our employees will have weekly off on Saturdays and Sundays.
My management has asked for a detailed report on this proposal and they want to know disadvantages and benefits of working 5 days a week. I am in the process of preparing this report so all of you are requested to share your views and ideas on this point. If anyone of you already have any study report or survey with them then please share the same with me which will be of help to me.
Thank you

Let me know whether yours is manufacturing company of continous process it is so how you can plan Weekly offs on Saturday & sunday for all. Are the employees working in shifts, if so you have to plan for staggered weekly off and they will be getting Double weekly off on alternative basis.
If you switch over to 5 days week it will be difficult to come back for 6 day week. If you plan fopr your corporate / admn. office it is ok but better to avoid for the factory area.

Firstly employee feels an international culture environment in the organization and gets motivates towards the organization and works in an efficient manner than ever before . And employee always keeps in mind that - hey only 5 working days, hurrah and works best like ever.
Coming to disadvantage , I hope there would be less disadvantages, and more benefits, so go ahead to convince your management , and bring that culture in the organization. say more about benefits and less on disadvantages.
And I really appreciate your efforts for bringing this culture in your organization.

Hi Amith,
Please let us know why you want to bring this change accross your organization. What motivated you to get this change. We should know your company details like what kind of industry etc., so that we can suggest accordingly.

Hellow AmSh,

Fine First I appreciate your move that you want to do something as an initiative.

As our friends Kamesh,Santhosh and Kishore have told the information about your organisation is essential obviously.

Apart from that tell me the location of the company from the actual town or village; how many employees/workers;

what is your consumption of electricity per day.

what is the fuel consumption on a normal day if you have company cars/vehicles etc.

What is your plan to match your loss of working hour to compensate on the other 5 days like increased duty hours etc. are needed.

Just you need to calculate the actual production on a day and the actual expenditure on heads. Analyse and then it will be easier for you to decide.

If much of public/consumers are involved in a days acitivity of your co. den better not to disturb the present pattern.

If less out put is your reason, then you need to enforce punctuality and tighten the working pattern to bring the optimum level of productivity.

Hope you got the point.

with best wishes

If 5 days working is implemented, it may affect the annual PL/EL pattern. Mostly MNCs, SW companies are following the 5 days working but I never heard of manufacturing companies. Pon

Hello all,
You can also implement in a month 2 Saturday off & 2 Saturday working culture. This will not make much effect on working hours of organisation or otherwise increase half an hour working hour daily, so you can balance working hours of organisation. We have implemented this work culture and it's really motivate our employee & we have reduce leave of employee. Go for it.

Well said mohan in resource prospective .
Kinjal ji your two Saturdays half idea also nice one .
any y amit ji before going to bring this change and five days week culture ...
think about :-
01. does your organisation needs uninterrupted service ?
02. does five days production or operations may effect your organisational needs and production requirements.
03. five days a week usually advisable for non - service kind of organisations not for manufacturing units.
any why think about organisational needs in resource prospective and production requirements.
take a wise deci..
