charge sheet is issued for charging against an employee for the specific offences committed by him.Whereas a show cause notice is issued for showing cause why an action, as contemplated under the disciplinary proceedings, shall not be initiated against an employee.
In the case of a charge sheet, the employee have to face disciplinary action ,if the reply furnished on the charges are not found to be satisfactory.

A show cause notice is issued to an employee when he indulges in any misconduct with the intent to call for an explanation for the said misconduct. It has to be specific with date time and place of the misconduct and clear in its communication. After the concerned employee renders his explanation, in case the management finds it satisfactory, no action need be taken. However if it is evasive and unsatisfactory the management can either punish the employee or in case of misconduct being serious warranting harsh punishment, then a chargesheet is given wherein charge is levelled against the employee as also the clause of misconduct of the standing order which is attracted. It should also be very clear and specific.

Hi Mayur,
Show cause is issued to employee to ask his explanation for that incident, it is opportunity given to employee for his say. If explanation is not satisfactory, the specific charges under Sec. 24 of Industrial Employment Standing Orders are framed with drafting detail incident. Again opportunity is given for his say.
Domestic enquiry & punishment is later part of it.
