In my opinion a project charter is the best MIS tool to be used it contains the following information, please find attached:
1. Project Description
2. Business Objectives and Success Criteria
3. Stakeholders
4. Vision
5. Project Scope
6. Assumptions and Dependencies
7. Constraints
8. Milestones
9. Business Risks
10. Resources
11. Approvals
Also please note that MS Project software is the one of recommended software to be used to manage your projects.
