Dear Seniors,
I have completed my MBA in finance and HR in 2010. I joined as a coordinator and then after 3 months I joined a company as HR Executive. I am the only HR in the company. The profile is like an HR Generalist. My scope of work is Maintaing attendance and leaves manually, New HR initiatives, Payroll and Some admin work. There is no scope for IR or legal compliance. So, i am in confusion that it would benefit me in my career or not. Because, in industries everyone want an experienced person with good at liasoning.
Please guide me about this.
Regards,
Neha Narang

Hii ,
I suppose as you are new. The company need some time to make you involve in case of Legal compliance.
You are a beginner. So take time to make yourself involve in IR.
You still have a year Experiences.
You are doing payrole, HR initiatives - its really nice for beginner.
Take it easy mate and just make experiences.

I agree with Mr. Mark.

Neha you must give sometime to yourself atleast. See you just have started your career and you are working with a small company it seems to me, where there is no proper set up of HRD and you have assigned to do this work.

You said that you are the one who is responsible for HR work such as Payroll and Employee Attendance along with other Admin work, im sure this opportunity will bring you lot more new things to learn. You need to take this as a very good opportunity. You are a new cog in this environment and just bcz of this you are feeling like this but rest assure this is a good start to...

Rest if you wanna learn more function of HR and to work on Compliance work, you just need to be here and have to do hard work in this regard but the most important this is that you have to enjoy your work and dont worry about the scope for IR & Legal Compliance.

Well how much you know about IR and Legal Compliance..you must learn on that too..

I have something for you that you can use to know more about the HR and their function and I call them "My 7 Stars of HR" here is the pages ..just go thru them and im sure this will help you to understand your work and lot more..

Hello Neha Narang,

While agreeing fully with Mark & Anil Arora, let me add a few other factors.

There are many HR professionals in this very Forum who would love to exchange their job with your's. Reason? They are NOT getting the opportunity to work in the very areas that you are working in. Interested to switch? :-)

So, in a nutshell, your case looks more like "the other side of the mountain is always green".

Since you have just started your career, suggest focus on learning whatever you are doing & begin to excel in those areas. The areas that interest you will follow as you grow career-wise.

Based on what you mentioned, there does seem to be opportunities to get involved into IR & Legal Compliance in your same Company--not everyone has that chance. But you need to bide your time for it--like Mark mentioned, YOU need to generate the requisite confidence in the Company that you can handle those functions--and what better way to do it than to prove yourself in the areas assigned to you?

All the Best.

Rgds,

TS

Clinical Trails having wider prospect in India as well as in US. Just go to PGDM - HR and make work experiences in the same field. after completing, You can apply to the Pharma companies as HR.
It is be more better if you join the combine course - like PGDM - HR and Finance. or HR and Marketing ..able to enter in the Pharma Export - Nice prospect.

Thank u all for your response,
Actually, its a small organization so it does not have enough scope for proper HR Functions. But, i should upgrade myself through learning. Can anyone suggest some short term corresponding courses for HR?

Neha
