try to speak your mother tongue less or stop it for 6 months and tell yourself you will speak only English during that period. You can sign up for a professional English course, you can also get a free one online at alison.com lastly don't give up on reading and studying, continue reading English literature and watching English programs, it will take some time but it will be worth it. The older you are the longer it will take.

Hi

For anything you do in life, a clear goal /vision, adequate motivation / enthusiasm, hard work / discipline and the ability to take risks/ challenges are critical attributes.

To improve your English Language skills, as in learning any new skill what you primarily require is the key attributes called 'discipline' and 'enthusiasm' with which you can achieve anything you want.

Your enthusiasm is the reason you wrote in at Citehr. The next test is to be disciplined and follow the suggestions given here.

1. My first suggestion is to read as much in English as possible. A standard daily English Newspaper and the Readers Digest have very good reading material.

2. Make more English speaking friends and make a determined effort to speak only in English, even if you keep forgetting words, or tend to stammer or your friends tend to laugh at you. This will require a lot of will power but believe me you will soon improve.

3. I would also suggest you try to learn at least 3 -5 new words and look up the meaning in a dictionary. then try and use these words in your daily work and in your communication.

4. If you still feel that professional help is needed then you will have to attend English speaking classes

5. You must also use MS WORD to type in your written communication and try to correct the errors that show up. This is quick and easy way to improve your written skills. eg. there are a few errors in what you have typed in Citehr regarding your problem, which could easily have been corrected before posting it. Avoid all tendency to use SMS language, short forms, slang etc.

6. Finally, if you can, do visit my blogs listed below regularly and try to learn the new words in it and also be inspired by it. You can click on the links below for instant access.

Why Hpye English? It;s just another language. Although it does have some significance but its does not determine your quality of work and overall personality. Learn it (various mode are avaliable) as a secondary language to your mother tongue. Keep a pocket dictionary to know meaning and use it in your sentences. You will learn it eventually. i personally feel you need to have a liking for the language than an obligation to learn it. Ok cheers ! we all had gone thru this stage. English medium or no english medium - It's just a language.

Dear Sir,
you are somehow right - It's just a language. But the current scenario of the corporate market seems to give prior importance in English Speaking and Writing. Today most of the professionals talk, deal, market their product or communicate in English and lack of English speaking and writing skills acts as challenge to grab new jobs and become a question for survival in existing jobs.
Hence, learning English become necessary for survival in corporate world.

True, English is just another language but the current job environment places a lot of premium on English.
A job seeker can either try to convince the recruiters that not knowing English doesn't compromise his abilities or he can learn English skills and compete for the job.

Hi simmi,
One thing you can do to get good command over English is that You take the daily English newspaper, and the dictionary.... stand in front of the mirror and read aloud and in a slow pace the contents...Try to understand each and every word and every sentence...If you find any word difficult immediately refer the dictionary.
This can help you in registering the words in your mind and while you speak to someone in English the appropriate words would automatically comes to our mind and you will be able to converse fluently.
You may not find the result in a day or two...but atleast in a months time you can feel the difference.
I am saying this because I have tried this and it has helped me a lot in improving my communication skill.
All the best!
