Hi All,
I am working in a broking company from the past 1 yr. My total experience is of almost 3 years. Here I am working at a Sr HR Executive designation.
I am open to new opportunities now. However, whatever calls i am receiving from other companies, even though big companies, I have been asked to join them at an Executive level. And thus I deny the offer, only because of the designation.
I really want to know is my step taken a correct one of denying the offers because of the designation? I do not believe in getting into a new company with a good pay package and a good role however going down on the Role ladder.
Kidly assist on what and how is the call i should take while negotiating the deal and resulting in a win-win situation for both.

Hello zaranab.joshi,
It all depends how you want to look @ the WHOLE package AND what your priorities are.

Just compare the designation of 'Executive' in a company of your size [guess you are working in Angel Broking] & the same designation in....let's say.....Bank of America. Do you think the JOB ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES [apart from the CTC] in both would be the same? Another analogy: Which of the Chief Ministers WOULD be having more power/responsibilities/money-at-disposal--a large state like UP or a smaller state like Chattisgarh? Mind you, BOTH are called Chief Ministers. I think you know the answer.
There's also another factor: the SCALE of operations, even if you would be doing the same 'basic' job role. In this company you would be handling people around 100 (?) while in large companies you would be handling employee sizes much larger.

From the HR perspective, what do you think will give you:
1] more satisfaction?
2] more responsibility?
3] more authority?
4] obviously, more money?

I guess you know the answer.
That is NOT TO SAY, that designation isn't important. But I feel, until you pick-up the threads/tricks of the trade [HR field], pl don't focus 'too much' on designation. I know of companies which offer crazy/high-sounding designations with the job role being a standard/regular one--though the employee doesn't realize it initially, it's HE/SHE who will loose out in the long run......since he/she gets stuck there when it's found in subsequent interviews that the designation & job role/responsibilities don't really match.

So suggest FOCUS MORE on the job role & responsibilities. Also, check-out if the next move will ADD to your overall portfolio/resume after 1/2/3 years down the line. If you are satisfied, then just make the move instead of dithering &, maybe, loosing the opportunity.

All the Best.

TS has elucidated nicely. Organisational hierarchy varies from company to company. What matters is the Role & Responsibilities, reputation of the org and of course better pay package. Pon

Very well explained TS...
Hi Zaranab
Just ensure you know about the growth path of the role you will be taking up next..that will matter a lot.
Designations are important but what is more important is that responsibilities and learning that you will gain..
TS has already explicated it all so properly..so all the best..
