Dear Amit,
One of useful features, mostly missed is to use this as Effect - Cause diagram....Many times management wants an Effect - Start 5 product launches by quarter end, create a new facility, or complete a project....then the principle can be used for identifying the factors crucial for completing the project.
The procedure for identfying the factors are same, except that we are using this for factors not causes.
I have used this successfully and have got results.

Fishbone diagram is a standard tool for solving problems and internet gives lot of information on this subject. Book titled "Solve that problem" Edited by Steve Smith gives details and under "How it helps" lists the following:
1. Focus on causes not symptoms.
2. Capture the collective knowledge and experience of a group (while doing brain storming in a group)
3. Providing a picture of why an effect is happening
4. Establishing a sound basis for further data gathering and action.
This till is much used in Six-Sigma. I have used it with great benefits.

Dear Amit, It is a really useful tool for studying the root cause of a problem. It will be particularly useful for people who are practising QCCs. Thanks for sharing.
